hey everyone,
ok i am new to the teg world, but very interested…i am thinking of swapping a bi6a into my 90 ls, but i have been reading and everyone says you need to get a new ecu…does anyone know of a good place on-line to get one and which ecu is the best to get i would really appreciate all the help i can get and very excited about getting started on my new project.
you will want a pr3 or pw0 ecu. but if you do the smart thing you’ll buy the b16a as a complete changover… meaning it comes with everything you need for the swap, including the ecu.
please do yourself and us a favor. go to the teg tips, download the vtec swap guide, then read it, read it again, and memorize that sucka! its crucial info!
thanx for the advice, another question and i may sound like a dumb@$$, but i gotta find out some how, as far as bolt-ons go for the b16a are they for an 88-91 civic or what. the story goes i bought my teg from a friend stock and the head gasket blew on it, the shop said either 900 for a new gasket or just get a new engine, the stock engine has a lot of miles so i am just weighing my options any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx a bunch teg world
$900 for a new head gasket!!!??? did something else go wrong when the head gasket blew? because a head gasket job shouldn’t be that expensive.
as for aftermarket parts, it depends on the part. You will buy your i/h/e for the car, not the engine. So your stock (as well as any aftermarket) intake, header, and exhaust bolt up just fine.
other parts you will need to buy for the specific engine, like cams, intake manifold, throttle body, pistons, gaskets, bearings… typically most stock parts you need will be purchased for the del sol or civic si with b16a engine, or maybe for the 92-93 b17a1, it all depends on the specific part.
