I have a 90 Integra RS. For the last month is has been having all kinds of idle issues.
So far I have replaced:
Hoses on IACV
TPS
O2 sensor (wire snapped on mine)
Cleaned the throttle body
Cleaned the IACV
Flushed the coolant system
My car still has issues. Every time I push my clutch in to shift between 1-2 2-3 etc it revs up higher for a few seconds until it slowly starts to drop. Basically its like not taking your foot off the gas when you shift.
Also I unplugged the IACV and it ran good, just idled like a cammed car during cold start but after that it idled great and ran great…except it seemed like I was burning more fuel and I could smell fuel. I figured its the IACV but someone said if you unplug it nothing should change if its bad but when I unplug mine everything changes.
I have fixed all my own cars for over 10 years without any issues but this is my first obd0 one and I am stumped. I checked the entire vacuum system and no leaks.
If you have have this same issue and have fixed the problem please help me out.
Please dont just tell me guesses and your idea unless you definitely understand the issue because I no longer want to through un-needed parts at this car
I’m having the same problem and I have been researching. Once of the things I’ve come across is a slipping clutch. In my case my clutch and flywheel are brand new, but I never changed the input shaft seal which might be leaking transmission fluid causing it to slip when I shift.
Have you verified that the throttle body isn’t sticking? I know you said you cleaned it but it could still be a possibility. Unlikely since it only happens under certain conditions though.
My money would be on the iacv, or fitv. There is a write up somewhere around here for cleaning the fitv, which wasn’t on your list of things you’ve done so far.
Bero or baro… i cant remember but could be bad ecu cuz the (bero/baro) i think is inside the ecu… which the (bero/baro) checks for outside atmosphere… something like that
Yea now i remember that sensor is like that on the 90… but anyway only i can think of is ur Distributor if u know someone with the same Distributor try it after u play around with the iacv
try this; warm the engine to operating temp. shut off. pull the air cleaner boot off the throttle body. observe the 2 ports in the tb bore. upper is iacv, lower is fitv. place a piece of tape over the fitv port. run the engine and see if the problem subsides. if it does, problem is fitv or fitv port.
if not, try cleaning the iacv port. this area likes to get carbon build up which can cause these symptoms. i like to run the engine, take your carb/intake cleaner with the straw on the nozzle and shoot that cleaner directly into the port. work the throttle while spraying. this keeps it from stalling and also excercises the valve while cleaning it and the port
