Hazards don't work, need help!

The other day I realized my rear defrost and hazards don’t work…EVERYTHING else on car works fine, no blown fuses, seems to be no blown relays, wiring and actual switches are fine.

I replaced my ICU, rear defrost works fine now. Hazards still don’t work. I replaced the Turn Signal/Hazard relay, under left side of dash, they still won’t work. Also replaced Hazard switch with a switch that I know works. The turn signals have worked this whole time, and still do work.

If my turn signal is on, and I turn on the hazard switch…the turn signal stops working and nothing happens until I turn hazard switch back off.

When hazard switch is on…no lights, no sounds. Is there multiple relays for the Hazards? Is there a clicker relay, and a flasher relay…or just the 1 main relay for turns/hazards?

I’m expecting the title in the mail for this new project, and I’d like to get it out on the street ASAP…but it needs working hazards to pass inspection. Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I drive a USDM 1991 GS 4door 5speed with ABS. I can’t seem to find a Hazard Light fuse under the dash, and a quick glance of the fuses under the hood didn’t show anything blown…but I’m unsure as to which under-hood fuse to look at since the diagram sticker is missing. A Picture would speak a million words, if someone could get one for me.

The hazard fuse is located in the engine bay fuse box, fuse 34 - 10A on CDN models but my Haynes manual only indicates a 10A fuse and no fuse number for USDM models.
I understand that it depends if the car has ABS or not, and if the car has ABS the hazard fuse is not in the under hood fuse box but someplace else under the hood, ABS fuse box maybe.
Check the white/green lead at the hazard switch, it should be hot at all times, it is hazard lights power from hazard fuse, if no power fuse is blown or there is a connection problem between fuse and hazard switch.

A quick temporary fix would be to run a 10A fused line from the constant power free pin on the under dash fuse box to the white/green lead at the hazard light switch.:corn: 94

I’ll re-test the wires on the Hazard switch today and figure out if there’s a problem there.

If anyone knows the location of ANY relays/fuses associated with the Hazard lights on a USDM '91 GS 4door w/ ABS, please let me know…and show pics if possible. Haynes and Chilton’s are un-clear about this, and my .PDF version of Helm’s is missing the electrical section. There’s a few relay-looking things with rubber covers, 4 to be exact, mounted to the car in the battery area…may be one of these?

The only relay I can find so far is the main Turn Signal/Hazard Relay between silver plate and bottom of dash, just to the left of the steering column.

Other then the signal light/hazard relay/flasher there are no other relays other then the one in the ICU and it only controls the front side markers, for both hazard and signal lights also the park lights for the side markers.

If the signal lights work the the problem can only be the hazard switch or hazard power going to the switch.

If there is no power on the green/white, the problem is before the switch, if there is power on the green/white, the problem is the switch. 94

I tested all wires to switch, with it plugged in and unplugged…ignition off…no power on any wire.

With ignition on, switch plugged in…12v+ at Green w/ White Stripe, and Yellow w/ Red Stripe.

No power at all from White w/ Green stripe in any circumstance…which I believe is supposed to be the constant 12v+ for the Hazards, if I’m reading my Chilton’s wiring schematics correctly.

Tested all fuses under hood and under dash, no blown fuses. All wires at under-hood box test positive for 12v. Tried 2 different Turn/Hazard Relays…this also changed nothing. Tested White w/ Green Stripe AT the under-hood box, tested fine for constant 12v+. Problem seems to be somewhere in the harness between Hazard Fuse-10a and Hazard Switch.

Can I run a constant-hot 12v+ line, fused 10a, manually from my under-dash fusebox to the White w/Green Stripe behind the hazard switch…and just bypass this problem I’m having? The White w/ Green Stripe…is buried deep within a catacomb of tightly-wound harnesses…and I’d rather not go on a broken wire hunt and mess all that up.

That’s what I figure also, a connection problem between the hazard fuse and the hazard switch.
Yea, just run a 10A fused line from the constant power free pin on the under dash fuse box, cut the green/white lead at the switch and connect the lead to it, don’t forget to cap off the other end of the cut lead, just in case it’s an intermittent problem and it goes live on you the next time you hit a pot hole.:corn: 94

Ok so after a long and boring series of checking wires…I gave up and decided to finish installing my ZEX NMU(nitrous management unit) under the hood…and while tinkering around by my battery I noticed a White /w Green Stripe Wire, with a plug on the end of it, coming out of the ugly junction of harnesses/relays just south of the engine fusebox.

I decided, just for the sole purpose of entertainment, to give this wire a positive 12v…Hazards work just fine now. It seems as if this wire at one point ran to the fusebox under the hood, but there’s no empty spot for it’s plug in the fusebox. I am now lead to believe that a past-owner replaced the fusebox from another model, at some point in this car’s life.

Anyways…everything is back to working in it’s stock form, without having to modify or add on wiring. Thanks for helping me out, fcm.

PS, don’t forget to fuse that lead.

this helped me fix my emergency lights no power to the White /w Green Stripe Wire so i wired it to the fuse and works now glad its fixed

old thread dig up, but better than starting a new thread…

would the Turn Signal/Hazard relay recitify my erradict signal/hazard like working/not working problem? right now, sometimes my signal/hazard lights work fine and other times they dont, they just stay illuminated and dont flash
