Head Question B20 on B18

My car is burning oil it has 146xxx. I got a B20 head from my buddy for like $20 but it has no valve cover or cams, or cam gears. is it even going to be worth ripping apart my head and swapping my internals into it. The head is real clean and has like 20xxx miles. Im not looking for preformance just for it to run better/ not burn oil!! It has the Intake Manifold on it should I use mine or use the B20 one. It’s not A P8r It the P3 something 75 mabye something like that dont have it right here but any help is appericated

P75, same as a B18b head. if the IM is not the tall one, go ahead and try it. Though you might need to use your IM to get a PCV valve if you do not have a valve cover either. Are you sure the burning oil is the result of head problems?

Im really not sure but I thought the head was complete so I figured $20 it is worth putting on but now its in pieces and just frustrating

you also need to buy a new headgasket and head bolts if you pull the head.

then wouldnt you be pissed if it still burns oil…it’s either your valve seals or your rings…does it smoke constantly, like even at idle, or just when you push it?

Smokes on start up and if I step on it but I think it smokes less as it warms up. Yea I will be kinda pissed if it still smokes but atleast the head has very few miles. But do I really need new head bolts?? Are they expensive?

if it smokes on startup i would say your rings are fucked. invest in a ring kit, they are not expensive ($80 cdn at napa) and you cag get .001, .002, and .003 oversize kits in case your cylinders are worn a bit. do this while you take the head off, don’t even have to take engine out, just take off the oil pan and go under. totally worth it, not like as if you are gonna kick yourself in the ass later on.

sorry forgot to mention head bolts. yes you need them, they are stretch bolts, and after being torqued once, they stretch to their oem spec. if you re-stretch them, they may become weak and easy to break or stretch, now you wouldn’t want a head bolt to snap at 6000rpm, would you? they may also stretch under the motor’s compression, making them loose, and have a head gasket leak. as for price, check at your local honda dealer, i forget how much they are.
