I got some dc headers 4-1 and two of my “racer” buddys say that I should put header wrap on the headers to help them cool off and it would help them peform a little better, but when I was going up to autozone the guys say I shouldn’t use any because that it rust or something off the headers and it cracks in about 8 months of the use of the header wraps. Who should I listen to and what did ya’ll do about ya’ll headers?
ok, well, header wrap doesnt keep the headers any cooler really. it keeps the heat inside the piping. less lost heat means more energy it has to be expelled where it should be- out the exhaust exit.
something like that
i’ve been thinking about this for some time now… so i might as well verbalize… but do you think if i wrapped my intake with that “tape” it would repel the heat away and keep the air within the tube cooler? and then if true… could be applied to intercooler piping and so forth… just some thoughts…
if you wrap the header, you can kiss it goodbye. It wasn’t designed to hold that much heat, and you risk destroying the metal. IF you want to take that risk, go ahead…I’d just get it jet-hot coated.
A warning came with my Chikara torquesteps not to wrap the header. The wrap contains the heat can destroy the header. Warpage and cracking. Mild steel headers are not designed to be wrapped. I would say go ahead and wrap the intake though.
this is insane, I have creamic and supposly does not rust or croad and I’m still getting both anwser, people face to face say to wrap them, and everybody on here says not to, its not stainless steal so it won’t rust, now all I need are yes or no answer and I’ll just pick the majority and percentage wise.
All DC ceramic coated headers are made of mild steel which rusts very easily. If you wrap a ceramic header, moisture will settle between the wrap and the header itself which in turn will destroy the ceramic coating and work on the steel.
If you like your header you’re not going to wrap it. mild steel rusts. Stainless steel tarnishes but does not rust as easily as mild steel.
