Heat shield for CAI pipe!

Hi everybody.
I made a custome cold air intake but i noticed that the pipe near the engine gets very hot when i drive a lot and the pipe near the filter is relatively cold. Now i asume that if that part is so hot then the air flowing through it gets hot as well. So I decided to take it one step ferther and create some sort of a heat shield for that part of the pipe. I ve been thinking of using a plastic pipe over my intake pipe. Does any one have any sudgestions.

you might not want to put a pipe around the existing one. First of all, that will insulate the heat, even though you’re keeping heat out, the heat from the intake manifold to the piping gets hot too. at least i know aem’s piping gets rid of heat really easily.

If you want a shield, go for one of those heat shields you can get at kragen (like engine heat shields, header wraps, etc), and somehow build a barrier between the front side of the pipe.

You know it won’t make that big of a difference. Just always carry ice and a plastic zip lock bag, and everytime the car gets really hot, pull it over and drop the bag of ice on top of the intake manifold and it’ll cool down quick =O)

following the example of dynamat hoodliner, i wrapped mine in carpet padding (foam-like), held it with a layer of ducttape, then finally a layer of foil. works great =P

you can also try painting the intake piping. They make some very good high heat paints. I painted my previous intake with some 1200deg high temp paint w/ ceramic. This stuff kept the piping incredibly cool. I currently have a polished short ram (no paint) and it gets very hot… so i know the paint works.

also, look at BR’s member profile. He put a heat wrap over his intake.
