Heat wrap around exhaust under shifter.

I had my heatshield removed right under the shifter, so now after a couple hours of driving the shifter gets really hot. It doesn’t really bother me, nor does it matter much, but I was reading up and some people put a heat wrap around the pipe in that area. Does that cure the problem or at least help? What kind of wrap will insulate best and yet not fall off?

i imagine you could use header wrap, but i have a friend that had his header crack and break because the wrap gets wet and holds water.

Yeah…header wrap will work good. It will help…

But wouldn’t header wrap just make the pipe that much more hot and probably cause that to crack?

the extra heat wouldnt crack the pipe, its the water AND the heat that’ll crack it. when the wrapping gets wet, especially with rain, it’ll begin to corrode the pipe since the water is retained there. a few people i’ve talked to with headers wrapped for a long time all say it eats away at the header. i wrapped mine a while back, but good thing i sold that set =)
