Hello everyone, I have always had issues with my heater blower motor with the common problem of my blower motor only working if the switch was turned to the 3rd or 4th setting. Well recently I had my headlights rewired because of power/shorting issues and when the car was returned to me I noticed the heater blower does blow at any setting. Because of this not working I purchased a new resistor and installed it. The blower motor is still not functioning.
Any ideas on where else to check for an issue? or maybe a diagram of how it should be wired up.
I recently had a similar issue. It ended up being the fan speed switch on the dash. Some of the solder inside the switch had cracked and fallen out. So when the switch was in that position, it wouldn’t make contact with the circuit.
I just took apart my dash and took out the blower control knob, could you upload a pic of exactly what you’re talking about? I pulled it apart but saw no soldered parts. Thanks
I don’t have a switch to show you, but if you have the switch out of the dash, take it apart, and you will see a piece of metal on the back. When you turn the switch, that piece of metal also moves along some small lines of solder that are connected to the electronics party of the assembly.
Its your blower resistor. If you look on the top of the blower housing ull see a black component with a cable hooked up to it and is held by two screws. Take that out and make sure the coils for speeds 1 and 2 dont have a gap which means the resistor coil is bad for those settings. Mine worked on just setting 4. And when i followed the wiring diagram it made sense to check it and thats what ended up being my problem just by looking at it. The resistor coils 1,2,&3 were broken and had a gap but four was good only because it bypasses all the resistors and thats why it blows so much faster. So check that before tearing your dash apart. You can get a brand new one for 26.36 at oemacuraparts.com, but if you prefer used from the junk yard for cheap that ok too but no telling how long that will last. But if that isnt your problem then more than likely its the switch. Good luck
