Heating problems, help me out

Help me out, freezing my ass off. Blower works fine, just no heat. Could it be the thermostat, the exchanger, or what. Never worked on a heating system b/4. Not something that breaks too frequently I guess, just my luck. Anyone else had this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Experiencing a similar problem with my 90 GS…
Engine temperature never reaches normal temp when the outside temp is below -10C or so… 4 of my friends have integras, and they don’t experience the same thing, so I know it’s not normal…
Temp gauge shows dramatic drop in engine temp upon acceleration too…
And because of all this, my blower won’t throw much heat.
I replaced my thermostat a couple months ago, but I went with a mid-temp one… I guess that’s more suitable for warmer climates… should have gone for the higher temp maybe? Gonna try that soon and if that doesn’t work, guessing it’s the temp sender or something.
Could also be my cheap piece of crap radiator from Canadian Tire. Weighs about 4x as much as the stock rad and seems to be twice as thick, so maybe there’s just too much coolant in my system…?
Any help would be much appreciated.

just had a similar problem this afternoon, the heater started to blow cold air when the engine was idling, and hot air the I was rolling(not at idle). turned out it was my radiator cap that was bad. but check your coolant level in the radiator, not into the overflow reservoir. my reservoir was full but and my radiator had 1 liter missing(not good).

make sure your radiator is full and replace your cap(about $10), if this doesn’t help, maybe the thermostat…

is the temperature needle acting funny?

No Heat

Had the same problem when I bought my 90 LS last month. I checked the Haynes manual and found the heater valve that is in the heater hose under the hood. It is kinda below the mouth of the intake in the heater hoses running towards the fire wall. I had my wife turn the temp knob inside from cold to hot and the wire on the valve never moved. So I reached down (the engine was cool) and took the wire off the valve and moved it completly to the other direction. And WOW!! I had heat. But in the last few days here in AL it has hit 70 and I was wishing I could turn it off easily. I also had to move a control arm/rod under the dash at the bottom of the heating unit to get the air to come out. I’ll deal with fixing the cold/hot knob thing when it hits spring. Hope this helps.

Fixed in

Hobo_Wes, that was it, i actually figured it out b/4 I even checked back with you guys. I figured the same, I’ll try to figure out the wire in the dash in the spring. Thanks for the reply though, and the same to the rest of you guys. Keep in touch, email me in the spring if you fix it. ChrisDara2@aol.com
