ok so I have been here for a minute now but never formally introduced myself or my little dirtbag mobile.
Name is Zach from Nor Cal, Bay Area. Just got my first integra just over a month ago. Whereas I am new to the integra circles I am not new to Honda vars and have had a 1st gen prelude, and a 2nd gen Accord previously. I also had a 1st gen 1st year 84 300ZX which met iot’s fate with a light pole due to asshole driving (oops) hehehe.
I love older cars and what swayed me to pick mine up was the front end… to me the second generation had the best looks as I like the headlights on this generation far more than thos round deals they got on newer models… I picked my DA up for 2k which may have been a littl esteep, but given the engine runs strong and it drives straight and has some suspension work done I figured it would make a nice summer project car and in the last month have come to enjoy the awesome handling.
anyways enough about me here’s my little teggy
Needs some work, but being the frame is straight, and the body issues very minor I plan on building it up a little and adding the basics. soon to be installed will be an AEM CAI, strut bars, and the missing emblems. Long term I plan to get her painted and am torn on staying black or maybe going back to her original red color with blacj trunk and hood… not too sure.
Nice to meet those of you I have already been chatting with about some of my issues, and eamc420 for the hookup on the AEM intake can’t wait to get it
Welcome looks like a great start
First get some one piece headlights (;
Makes a BIG difference. Imo

yeah those are on the menu later on… kinda like the look of those halo lights for the front and rear want to get some cross drilled rotors, the steering rack replaced and all the mechanical stuff done first. spent the day under her and tightened up all the loose crap and resoled my rattling issues and it drives like a dream now. Seriously can’t believe the car is over 20 years old hahaha.
SOon to be added… drilled & slotted rotors, ceramic pads, AEM CAI, MSD red plugwires, Missing emblems, PS rack, Exhaust stay, & driver side inner fender… then to start setting aside for some strut bars, body work, and paint will post pics as soon as I get the parts and have em installed.
At that point I think I’ll have the basics out the way and have the majority of issues resolved and restored
After all that I can start putting aside for some aftermarket upgrades.
I’ve been saying I’ll just get the mechanical stuff done then mod it later for two years haha. Welcome though and good luck with her. May you encounter far less problems than I haha
Oh and imo go with the original red to match the bay. I thought the exact same things you did and I went with the original color and I’m sooo glad I did. Much cleaner when everything matches
Agreed… my teg as it turns out went from red -> metallic blue -> Black… ima have alot of sanding and prep to do to get 2 layers of what is prolly cheap maaco paint before it is ready again… that and fixing the holes on the quater panels from the skirts someone put on it. been trolling for a pair of straight fenders with or without side mmarkers, figure it be easier and cheaper just to get a new pair rather than fill and block the ones on it that don’t even match.
Got my Power Stop Drilled slotted rotors & cerammic pads, Driver side inner fender liner, Yonaka 2 row aluminum radiator, Gates low temp race thermostat, and I forget the brand, but some 3 ply high temp silicon red radiator hoses to replace the oem stuff, thermostat housing gasket (had an overheat issue on a long drive so just gonna replace the cooling system parts that do not require getting into the block) Found on ebay the locking lug set the last owner had so I am able to at least get the rest of those damn locking lugs off without breaking any more studs.
AEM intake should finally be showing up also.
Figure that will give me a good weekend project. Next up ima have to replace the Oil sending unit… the oil pressure llight is coming on very dimly, and I have ruled out every other possibility on why it is happening. but that can wait till the next oil change. Also looking at strut bars for the front and rear & some descent coilover springs so I can ditch the ebay junk ones on there currently.
I figure all the above + what I have already done will allow me to drive it for a good long while till it gets to rebuild timme for the engine and trannny. Plan to save a good chunk of change up for that evolution, so when I do have to eventually tear it down, ima rebuild it right annd then get into engine mods, Intake, Exhaust etc. etc. etc.
I’ll say this much… Owning a Teg hahs definitely re-kindled my passion for working on cars… too many years behind a desk I think the best part is with these cars the sky is pretty much the limit with what all you can do with em… of all the honnda cars I have had this seems to be the most custoomizable ride in history lol… soo mmany directions I could go
Productive day today got the brakes and rotors done and also installed my new radiator, hoses and Thermostat. Went for a test run to SF and back no overheat issues brakes are solid. Did find a small coolant leak after the trip turned out the o-ring on the drain plug was crap so I had to drain the radiator replace the o-ring then fill it back up, but I gotta say it is nice having no throb when I brake, and even nicer to not have my car overheating on long drives LOL.
hmm won’t let me upload the rest of the pics I took
finally got it back from Acura after having them fix the retracting seat belts. (I’m the sadistic sort that actually finds amusement in watching my passengers get choked out) and was informed there is a switch in the door power latch assembly that controls the retractor… Well they said it was only an intermittent issue where the seat belt would get stuck… they did not mention that the car likes to beep incessantly and flash the seatbelt warning at me lol.
I also got my new plug wires and installed em along with a new Distributor cap which has given me a marked improvement in my acceleration.
Slowly but surely my project is coming together.
here’s a link to a more recent photo of my engine bay.

still needs some work internally as I am having issues as mentioned in my thread in the assistance section. but after I get her running right again I am thinking about getting a new valve cover just to finish making it look super clean seen some pwder coated ones on ebay going pretty cheap.
well to date I am about 1k into chasing problems down and fixing them and also in upgraded parts when fixing problems lol… It is my understanding this is common with these older tegs, and part of the fun in owning one. :rimshot:
I think the only frustrating thing is I cannot just do everything I want to at once. and as is typical with any older used car 1 problem fixed = 2 new problems that need fixed also.
Eventually I figure I’ll get em all worked out and get to start over again lol. Also starting to think a seocnd engine might be a good thing to have for building up so I can just swap em out when I kill this one.
I swear I am becoming a DA junkie… no other car honda or other has had me so interested in working on it since my Mustang GT
