help 4.5k idle....

Well yeah my idle is at 4.5k… when i pull the the sensor on the TB, before it was like 3.5… I cleaned that thing in the back of the manifold and it didnt help the bouncy idle… any other ideas?

how tight is your throttle cable?

adjust the screw above the tb, check your tps sensor, and that throttle cable as stated above…

or try resetting the ecu.

throttle cable is fine… screw doesnt do anything.

damn thats high!! mine idles at 1.5k

I swaped TB’s… still it sucks… the idle is still going up and down… this is pissing me off…

Would appreciate it if someone would tell me what TB and TPS stands for…

TB = throttle body

TPS = throttle position sensor

Here is the order Helm’s says to check:

If the fast idle is bad cold:

  1. Electronic air control valve
  2. Other idle controls
  3. coolant temp sensor

Too high of RPM when hot:

  1. Other idle controls
  2. Electronic air control valve

Rough idle:

  1. electronic air control valve
  2. fuel injectors
  3. manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP)

Hope that helps some…

Thanks for the fast response. I have that Helm’s manual. Can you tell me which pages you are getting that from. I have the downloaded online version and it’s sort of difficult to locate stuff in there especially since I know nothing.

It is actually from the 1991 manual but I am sure it is the same for the 1990 model :wink:

All the info came from the trouble shooting section in the FUEL section of the book… 11-14 in my book…
