help: b18b1 swap 90 rs

I have a 90 RS i swapped in a b18b1 with the intake/tb. i extended my map sensor wires and only have the coolant sensor unplugged because i havent extended those wires to the thermostat yet. i have the iacv and fitv blocked off and rerouted my coolant lines. at first i was able to get it idling and when i would give it throttle it would cut out/bog and not start. i put new plugs and wires it started up and idled good a little high so i adjusted idle and then gave it a few revs and sounded good then started to idle rough and cut off and has not started since. i pulled the plugs and smell alot of fuel so i let them sit out of the engine over night and even tried new plugs again still nothing. i also had to cut off the oem connector on the one wire 02 sensor and use an aftermarket male/female connector. im wondering if the map and o2 sensor are my problem or something else?:hmm::bye:

check for spark

no spark with a brand new distributor.

check for power to the ignitor at the distributor. i believe thick blk/ylw tracer wire. should be 12v KOEO

what happens when there is no voltage to the ignitor from this wire??

i should say what causes no voltage to the distributor? main relay? ignition switch?

it has power to the yel/black. but i think im only reading 5-7v throughout my main relay. im seeing the red flash on the ecu when i turn the key to on or start pos.

not ylw/blk tracer. it’s blk/ylw tracer. check for battery voltage on that wire with the key on

yea thats the one i checked. replaced the main relay. and still nothing. pulled out the brand new distributor to find the ears that slide into the cam are sheared off. put in one of my old distributors and it fired right up. must have been the relay.

should probably pull the valve cover and attempt to retrieve whatever pieces you can

i got them. one was inside the cam itself and the other was right inside the head. used a magnet and and wiped everything clean. introduced a new problem though. my idle is now stuck around 2000-2500. i have the obd1 iac plugged in but coolant lines are rerouted and and both iac and fitv are blocked off. i tryed unblocking and rerouting the lines with no results. any ideas?

is your timing set correctly?

yes it was all set according to the cam and crank markings. but now when i check with a timing light at the 2000+ rpm idle its way off. not even close to the 3 lines its closer to the white line i think.

adjust the timng then. make sure the engine is at operating temp and that you jumper the check connector to initiate base timing mode. that last part is of the utmost importance

and i’m speaking of ignition timing. not valve timing
