Hey Fellow DA owners… i dont really go on this site as much anymore, but really looking for some help. Ive owned my car now for about 5-6yrs and been amazing. a couple yrs ago is when the problem first started and it hasnt gone away still to this day. Its so random its hard to explain it to a mechanic @ Honda, so im reaching out to you guys…
So some days after a 10-15min drive home from work (cars pretty much warmed up by then) i turn it off and some days it just wont start up again, unless i leave it for a couple hrs. But i can Push Start it, which is what i do a lot of the times, lol… When i go to start the car back up i hear a clicking noise coming from under the dash behind the stereo… its a starter relay switch (i havent replaced it yet, but i hear thats not the issue)… now ive done lots of internet research and found lots of random things that could be the possibility to fix this issue… but i havent had any luck yet… so far i have put in a battery, starter, Alternator (last week, cleaned up all the connections too), and distributor… §§§§§ was f’d, alternator was getting old, and battery needing replacing… but the same problem is still accruing… Im not a master mechanic by any means, so just looking to see if anyone has ran into a similar issue and had success fixing it. Thanks!!
PS… In the winter this problem is pretty much non existent, it gets pretty cold here in Canada, and i think Tempature might have something to do with this… when it gets warm outside seems to happen more often.

Mine has done this a few times… As you said, when hot, and after driving it for a bit.
I never found a solution and it is an extreme rarity that mine does it.
I don’t know if it’s the main relay getting hot, or the ICU maybe? I was thinking maybe my fuel pump was taking a dive.
My first thought when you say it won’t start after its hot is the main relay. I’ve had this problem with my da and my old EF hatch and both times it was resolved by replacing the main relay. The solder joints go bad and it’ll start acting up in the heat. Let it cool down and you’re fine. I suggest replacing it.
I’d second the main relay… but also suggest you check out the negative battery clamp… I was having an issue like this and went over every damn ground 3 times… chedcked everything off & for the life of me couldn’t figure out what would cause this condition…
Then one night I was dropping a guy off at work & noticed my sub was getting weaker… during the drive & my car was losing power ( almost like the laternator was dying) . has the car sputter to a stop at my buddies house ( ironically it made it just there) called for a tow truck & when the tow truck got there he tried hoooking a jumper pack to the car to start it & sparks shot from the negative terminal… He pulled a new cable clamp out installed it and my teg roared to life and has not had this issue since.
What struck me as odd was that the clamp that was replaced was not loose or anything like that, & I am still slightly baffled to this day over that whole ordeal, but at the same time glad it was resolved…
