Help cv axel install! Disconecting lower control arm from steering knuckle

THe lower control arm won’t slide down of the front right knuckle! i’ve banged on it with a hammer for a little while and tried prying it down but no luck.

I’m doing a cv axel install and got stopped right here. BTW Do you have to drain the manuel tranny fluid? My book says to but I don’t know why? I’ll just let it spill out when I take the axel out if thats what it’s going to do… BTW I have a lot of room to work because I’m also installing some new springs so currently the whole shock assembly is out along with the damper fork.

have you tried a puller?
it’s got 2 little arms that latch onto the lower control arm and a bolt that goes thru the middle to push on the bottom of the ball joint. You tighten the bolt and it pushes the ball joint up thru the lower control arm.

I had the same problem your having because I didn’t have this tool. I ended up ****ing up the threads on the ball joint before I went and rented a puller :stuck_out_tongue:

:argh: i May have a puller but I think it is a little big for this job, thanks for the idea.

Ok, THe boot on the right side was busted so I just stuck a big fork looking tool in there and pried the control arm off. The other side was a pain I beat down on it with a hammer and then I tried the big fork tool but the boot was good on that side and it busted and grease went all over the place(the boot over the ball joint) so my dad went to autozone and bought a import car joint puller or something and it fit perfect. It got real tight then POP and it come loose. So I got everything done on the front, two new H&R sport springs 2 new cv axels and new manuel transmition fluid(10w30 motor oil). It drove nice and smooth but I bent one of those gaurds behind the rotor so it was scraping the rotor the whole time I was test driving it. The rear is still lowered 2" so I need to finish the springs in the rear tomorrow.
