Help dropping the tranny. Yes I searched. URGENT!

I got everything out the way to get my tranny out… the passenger side mount is out, the front side mount is out, the rear is unbolted… passenger side axle is out… Bolts underneath are out… Im gonna pull the driverside axle and intermediate shaft out tommorow… am I missing something? Does it just release from the engine when I tug it towards the passenger side after the intermediate shaft is out too? I dont get it - it just feels so locked into place… anyone have any tips that i could be missing? Please help!!!

Sounds about right. Make sure all the 17mm bolts are off, the flywheel plate is off, all the bolts underneath are off. Some of the big 17mm bolts can only be accessible from the bottom. After that it may feel somewhat locked in place but once wiggled from furthest away from the meeting point, it should budge a bit. Good luck!

also take the starter off one of th 2 bolts that hold it to the tranny actually goes into the block.

oh yeah and what rich said also:)

I just got done puttin my tranny back in and I experienced the same stickiness that you are talking about. Try using a big screwdriver or a prybar and pry the tranny from the motor. I had to do this to mine just due to excessive mileage and being stuck on by dirt and grime, but yeah that should work. Also try tapping on it with a rubber mallet to try and break it free.

btw It’s a fun project isn’t it?! hehe

My tranny wont drop!!! UGH!! All the stinking bolts are out, theres nothing really holding it in… Does the intermediate shaft and driver side axle -HAVE- to come out for the thing to drop? If you look at the transmission… towards the rear side of the car… on the underneath… if your facing it from the driver side… I took out the bolts, and the rear transmission/engine mount… and it still appears that thats the point where the engine and transmission will not seperate! HELP ME!!

i just dropped my tranny, and i didnt take out the driver side axle. mine was a bit siezed to the block, but after a rubber mallet and slight pry with the oversized screwdrivers, i broke it loose. once loose i banged on the driver’s axle with the rubber mallet and it popped right out, after that, it just worked it’s way out. just make sure ALL bolts are off and you have the correct mounts unbolted.

the helms manual that was just recently posted helped me greatly, download it and check to make sure you have all the bolts out. good luck.
