Help Help Help!!!

Okay I have a friend with a 91 Mercury Capri NON-turbo. It has a hydralic tranny and we are having a huge problem with getting the car into gear. Here is the situtation:

Push in the clutch and start the car…it starts!!! woohoo…

When we do this the car can either be in gear or out of gear.

Now the next thing we try to do is change gears. CAN"T do it!!!
I don’t know why. It just won’t go into gear. Clutch needs to be adjusted? Help me Help me…

This is what I tried. I got down under to look at the clutch pedal and tried to adjust it there but no luck. Then I went to the top of the tranny where it meets the block and found the screw was loose. I tightened it but only until it was snug. Should I have kept tightening it? I know I should have a service manual or even a crappy Haynes, but I don’t and the local AutoZone isn’t as local as I would like it to be so I can’t go get it. Thanks for any and all responses…

Is there any possible way that you may have gotten oil or grease into your tranny or clutch??? Because if you did then they will not work properly. You will have to shift without using the clutch until the oil/grease/other crap burns off. If you don’t know how to do this…AIM me at musicisair or e-mail me at rockonbassman@yahoo.com
