do you have to drain the coolant to change a thermostat cuz i just changed my antifreeze and didnt feel like doing the thermostat but my needle never goes up and my fan never comes on, note i just changed radiator nice and new. so new fluid and new radiator but not a new thermostat. please help
Yes u should drain the system because you’ll be pulling the lower radiator hose.
Are you saying that it stays cold all the time?
It might be that the thermostat got stuck open. If that’s the case, you’ll need to drain some coolant to change the thermostat.
well damn i just changed my damn fluid so now i have to drain all of it out now? wish i known this before. can i drain it and reuse the fluid cuz i just changed it like 2 days ago
I would assume it’s ok to use the old fluid as long as it’s drained into a clean container.
You can reuse the Coolant
You can reuse the Coolant, it is recomended by my Hayne manual if your coolant is new. Make sure you keep/filter it clean before putting it back to your Radiator.
filter it as in how?
It only takes a couple minutes to drain the coolant into a container. Change the stat and fill it right back with coolant. DOnt forget to bleed.
I had this same problem om my teg. I just recently changed the thermostat and it fixed the problem. Mine would run normal temp if I let it sit for a while then when I started to drive all the way to cold it would go.
Make sure you drain the coolant so there is no dust or foreign material on the coolant before put it back to the radiator.
