I just got a knock on the door and the person knocking was a friendly police officer who came to inform me that my horn was going off on my car in the parking garage. I had been home for four hours so I have no way of knowing how long it had been going off. I didn’t hear it cuz my car is in the parking garage of my apartment several floors below me. when I got down there it was making a constant blairing noise. the first thing I did was pop the hood, and I pressed the horn switch on the steering wheel. the horn honked differently but still kept blairing. when I looked under the hood, my cooling fan on the radiator was still on (side note; i have been having the problem where my radiator fan stays on for a while after the engine is off even when the engine doesn’t need it) I unpluged the fan and the noise continued. I unpluged the horn fuse and then It finally quit.
I don’t have any kind of alarm system to make the horn go off. Does anyone have any ideas what caused this??? everything else seems to work fine. Thanks in advance for your replies.
I guess the problem is related to the weather. that night this first happened, the roads were very wet and icey with lots of salt put down. I put the fuse back in the next night and nothing happened so I figured it was a freak occurance. then last night again we had a lot of snow and ice and so I waited for a while after parking my car to see what would happen and the horn started going off after a few minutes. I guess there’s water or ice getting in some circutry somewhere causing a short. Can anyone point out where my horn relay switches are, and also where is the horn mounted. someone told me I can disconnect one of my horns (the one giving me problems) and the other one should still work just fine. your help would be appreciated.
horns are mounted inside the front bumper.
if you have a '90-'91 you can pull out the rubber vents in the lower corners to gain access to them. (still pretty awkward though)
that could be where the water’s getting in too.
I had the same problem a few months back. Thinking i had only one horn, i changed the driver side. That day , the same thing. I was sitiing inside and the horn went off. I pulled the horn out and have been driving without. Funny thing though, i just learned that there are 2 horns, the passenegr side isnt working at all. I may try changing them both and see what happens. I dont believe there is a horn relay on these.
