Hey, ok, the other day my tach went on the fritz and shorty after, as I was slowing down, (2nd gear, roughly 40Km) my car kinda jerked a bit then ran fine. The next day, heading to work the jerking problem (mostly under load and slowing down) started becoming very bad. After my shift, started then car, drove half way home, only jerked once or twice, then at a stop, the car stalled and started again fine, stopped to get coffee and it stalled again, didnt want to stay running, long story short, now it runs rough then stalls, wont start, cranks but wont start, once it stalls, you have to wait about 5 to 10 minutes, turn the key then it starts fine but die shortly after… Can anyone tell me what might be the problem before I change my fuel pump? This may be a dumb question but, where is the fuel filter? I looked today but couldnt find it…Any help would be great…Car is 92 Integra RS B18A1.
The fuel filter is located on the firewall. Look at your fuel rail next to the valve cover. There is a hose on the left side that leads to the filter. They usually cost about $20. If you can find a gauge to hook to the fuel rail then checking the fuel pressure would be a good idea.
Do you have a check engine light on? If so what code is it putting out?
My initial suspicion was the distributor since the tach was acting goofy. Good luck!
Hey bro I don’t think it’s your fuel filter that’s the problem, all of your symptoms are distributor related. I’m pretty sure because the same thing happened to my car. Before long you won’t be able to drive your car a block without it dying. The distributor has something Internal that controlls the tach and the reason for your car jerking under load and while slowing down is because of the distributor throwing out interrmittent sparks. That is also the reason why you aren’t able to start your car at times, only when the distributor feels like working correctly. While your at it you might as well replace the fuel filter as well since it is about $15 and so you can rule that out. Hope this helps, let us know how it goes.
thanks, I changed my cap, rotor and plugs yesterday but it didnt help. So, im gonna try the filter and hope thats my problem.
If you have a friend with an Integra you could take his distributor out and put it in your car and see how it runs. I would say it IS distributor related with that bouncing tach.
Replacing cap, rotor and plugs won’t fix a damaged distributor.
this. replace the whole thing with a known working unit. if you lived near me id let you borrow one of mine
im aware those things wont fix a distributor, but i never said it was. I think it might be the coil because it seems to be a heat related problem
yeah… igniter coils that are on their way out usually fail when they’re hot…
I had similar problems with my car a two years ago. I replaced the distributer and the problem went away. the problem was the ICM. When they start to go they will shut down when they get hot.
