Well I decided to install front lower control arms with polyurethane bushings and ran into a problem. Taking them off the donor car was easy. But the driver side bolt on my car I had to cut. Also the nut that the bolt goes into got striped. So after work today I said let me just cut it out. And it’s being a real jerk right now. Anyone ran into this problem?
Hey bro if ur using a grinder thats not gonna work its to big u need a cutoff wheel to get up in there then go get u a grade 8 bolt long enuf to go thru get a nut for the other side then pat urself on the back…got out of that one!!:whew:
You’ve cut off a lot of material already. I’d stop and just replace the subframe.
Exactly what those guys said.
If your donor car has a good subframe, I’d replace the current one.
Brotha…just stop! The sub-frame is basically the load berring beam for the entire front end, engine and tranny…the last thing you should be doing is grinding away at it. I’ve had a crap load of those…almost as fun as a stripped timing belt tensioner pulley bolt that goes into the engine block. Get a small cutoff wheel and then use a dremel and very carefully cut off the head of the bolt. Now get a punch and a hammer and just tap it out. Replace with another high grade or OEM bolt and nut just the the previous guy said. Youre good to go!!
Yea i stopped cutting and got a chisel and got it out. Thanks for the help guys. I am going to look into getting a new sub-frame when I pull the motor in a couple months and a new steering rack as well.
Just bought a sub frame from ebay for $65
