1991 GS 2dr 167,000miles Intake/Exhaust
OK so I’m leaving my house and the car seemed to be making a lot off sucking noise from the engine. So I keep driving and floor it. The car seems a little sluggish and then it hits past 3000RPMs and it’s supposed to be picking up speed and it just slowly accelerates and the sucking noise from my hood is getting very loud. I keep it floored and that deep growling sound from the intake is as loud as hell but the car isn’t picking up speed very fast, I mean my car sounded like a Harley at wide-open-throttle. What the hell is wrong with my car?
might jus be your igniter module… ive been thru 3 of them so far :bored:
What is the ignitor and what does it do? Also, did you have this same problem or is this just an educated guess? How much does it cost?
the igniter is a piece inside of the distributor itself… once you take off the cap you can look right at it.
i can only speak from my experience’s since im not standing in front of your car ya know. but you should have it checked by a tech. they are very simple to replace but you should have the ignition system tested before replacing stuff to see if you need more parts ya know…
but all n all it does sound like you have an ignition problem to me.
ok thanks, i had my distributor looked at about a week ago, but why is there the loud sucking noise from my engine?
welcome to the world of ignition/timing/tuning my friend.
Ok…so are you or are you not going to answer my questions?
well cost wise i really dont remember since had these problems myself about 6 years ago…
it appears the sucking noise is your engine’s ignition system functioning in an abnormal manner which in turn will make the cams operate different, which can create a louder intake note…
and since you have an aftermarket intake it is allowing MORE air to be sucked in… IE: it gets louder…
it sounds like you and a few other members are having the same problems this weekend… might wanna read these posts.

This is just an educated guess so consider it that way. I would be surprised if it was the ignition system since it continued to operate and just lost power. It sounds to me like a fuel problem. The noise is the WOT sound sucking air but not getting enough fuel. How old is your filter? Does the fuel pump work? It seems to be starving for fuel.
It’s not an ignition problem beause the car starts and runs. The problem I’m having is that at WOT and in high RPM’s the car doesn’t pull like it should and is really loud.
