Help Newbie..can't pass smog!

Hi, I still a newbie to this site and my car. I have a 1990 acura integra 4 door (db1).
The person I got the car from changed it from a auto to a manual… Took car to get smogged and it failed. They guy said I don’t have EGR valve. To my understanding a manual dosen’t have a EGR, only a auto… The smog guy didnt look like he knew what he was talking about… Could it be the wrong ECU? Any possible solution would be a big help…

i just had smog last year january and it didnt pass guy said emission is failed and he told to have someone to check my catalytic converter and oxygen sensor but but i already change my o2 sensor 2 months before i did my smog but i know the catalytic converter is still stock never been change since i got this car. so after they change my converter i took it back to the smog station to do it again the same day. and it pass was so happy i didnt spend to much money…

are you having engine check light on? if you do if engine check light is on they will not pass the test same think happened to my friends car… i hope i could help you more am a newbie to here maybe someone here can help you in your situation.

Is your car throwing a check engine light at all? Manual 90-93 Integra’s don’t have an EGR, but a lot of people converting overlook that fact and run the auto ECU, which causes the light to be on.

what were the exact readings?

Can’t pass smog!

How do I know if my ecu is auto or manual? Also my gage cluster dosent work so I don’t know if check engine lights comes on. I believe that I have broken temp/coolant sensors and that why my gage dosent work so I don’t know if check engine light comes on.:hmm:

when you turn the key to II position, do the lights on cluster illuminate for a couple seconds?

No, I’m going to check the connections on the back of the cluster… Could it be possible that my sensors are bad… Nothing on my clusters works… mph dont work, gas gage don’t work, temp gage don’t work… any suggestion why?

If you haven’t already done so, check all your fuses first. Also, find out why did you fail smog? My car failed do to high Nox. Let us know what your smog readings say and it can tell us a lot.

damn and u drive it like that? lol
on that note. i have a manual cluster works great am asking 30 plus shipping if ur interested?

lol my daily is a dc5… I bought the car for $800 cause I wanted a 4 door manual… come to find out it use to be a auto… car fires up and runs, but no telling wgat they did to the car… had a fart can on the back. Please send pay pal info… Iwant the gage cluster asap

thanks mos def… the guy @ smog station was a idiot… you can tell he was confused.

put in some 91 octane gas and rip your car around town for 20 minutes and it should pass for hc’s. if it fails for high nox it could be running lean.

yes email me at Edgarmtz206@yahoo.com it goes straight thru my phone. thanks.

That is inaccurate. A higher octane gas has a higher resistance to knock. If anything, it will raise hc readings as it has a higher flash point

About the cluster, have you checked to see that it’s even plugged in?
Also, the readings. What were they?

Thanks for all your help… will post readings when I get home… If my gage cluster is for a auto and my ecu is for a auto, but I have a manual trans, do I need to change them to manual? Could this be the reason why my cluster dosen’t work and that I can pass smog? Should I cange the ecu if its’s for a auto?

You don’t “have” to change them. You should be alright running an auto ecu on a manual. You just might get a transaxle code. Gauge cluster should still work the same regardlEss of the trans or ecu.
If you want to know which ecu, manual or auto, is in there, just read the serial code on it
Do your reverse lights work?
