Car died Monday doing 65mph and suddently died. It cranks over but no spark. Put a new distributor/cap/rotor–still nothing. Have magnicore 8.5’s and new Zex plugs~~Yes for NOS, but anyway. I was told when cars die like that is could be two obvious things ,alternator or fuel pump. No worrys on the fuel since I have no spark…(checked throughly). Was wondering if car would not start with a bum alternator??? The battery is also new and now drained since I tried kicking the biaaatch over about 30 times. I could use your help on this one guys. I was wondering if it could be the ignitor or alternator…Oh I have a B16A in a 91 GS if that helps. Do a search for the ignitor and main fuel relay.

It is sounding like your coil went out on you. Very common problem for our tegs.

same sh*t happend to my bro’s acura
sorry,… still not fixed.
my bro changed the distributor and all that crap that makes spark.
we thought it was also the fuel pump, but we checked it directly to the battery and it squirts just fine… but when you turn the key, the ‘electric’ fuel pump won’t work.
Now, a mechanic,… the 4th mechanic that went to see the car said that the ECU won’t let any fuel pump out if there is not spark.
HMMMMM, can it be the ECU it self?? i hope not.
But the mechanic found the Main Relay toast,… and he said that that might be the problem.
Bad Relay = No Spark right??
The machanic said to get a NEW relay and a new fuel filter… fuel filter cause he thinks that if there is spark and not enough fuel may cause the relay to blow.
I don’t know how you can check the relay, but have someone to check it for you… if it’s bad,… then i pray for you that that’s the ONLY problem.
I have the Relay right here in my hand,… i’m going tomorrow to the dealership and get a new one.
I’ll let you know how it turned out.
Good Luck man.
i had the same prob so i replaced the battery thinking thats what it was but it was the main fuel relay. look under tegtips, engine, and then replacing main fuel relay.
heres a link about it
The mech that told you the ECU won’t deliver fuel without spark is full of ****… not to sound too rude…
Check the:
- Fuel pump
- Main relay
- Injector resistor
- Fuel filter
If you are going to keep this car, buy a Helm’smanual because the trouble shooting guides are the best thing since sliced bread!
Found Problem, thanks guys
I found the problem…car died due to distributor cap failure. The spring that holds the “peg” in it broke (the one that connects to the ignition coil) so no voltage was being shot accross to the cap then rotor obviously. 16 dollar fix. 34 for the tow…B16A in a 2dr, priceless. Thanks for all your help guys. It helped me look and learn how and where the spark is coming from…
i thought you said you bought a new cap rotor and whatever?

It is not an uncommon thing to come across a defective cap. I have came across a couple, but then I work on a lot more cars than most people…
