im turnin my 91 Ls into an Ls/Vtec with and i was wondering what should i do about my ecu because i want to be able to tune it after im done, and i was reading that 0db0 can not be tuned. So would i need to change my whole wire harness to 0db1 to tune it. Or could i just get one of the jumper harness for the ecu and it will be fine, and get an 0db1 ecu? Also what ecu should i get?
my car has about 171,xxx miles on it so i’m goin to have gsr piston’s installed with new rings and bearings… But will i see a difference in compression switchin to gsr piston’s, because im tryin to step up my compression.
Also what do you guys think of my parts so far:
2000 b16a2 head with about 70,xxx miles (already tapped for Ls/Vtec)
gsr water pump
gsr oil pump
gsr timing belt
golden eagle dowel pins
sandwich plate
Arp bolts (ordered them today)
I’ve done alittle research on this setup, was thinkin of doing it to my LS, before I swapped it out for a b20z.
It’ll be easier for you to swap in some b16 pistons. There is no machining needed on the rods with either pr3(usdm) or p30(jdm) pistons.
GSR pistons will require extra machining to be done and will net a lower 10.X:1CR.
I’d personally go with p30’s. With the stock b16 head your lookin at 11.5:1.
Make sure with the arp rod bolts you take the to the machine shop with (i’m assuming) the stock rods and have them install them; may need to resize the rod. Also, balance the rotating assembly, shot peen the rods, etc. etc.
im running obd1 p28 ecu chipped by phearable.net. I gave him the specs of the engine i was building, and he made a suitable base map. after i get some cams, i’ll be getting it tuned. no, it doesnt run rich. i actually get 35 mpg on average now, better than what i used to have with my old engine.
