help on painting

I’m going to paint my teg… due to the clear coat all coming off and lots of dings here and there. I currently have a gravity feed paint sprayer and a decent sized air compressor. I’m somewhat new to good quality automotive painting and need some advise. I want to paint it so it’s some form of color changing metalic with some flake… but have no idea where to start. I’m looking for advise for a complete solution, from primer to clear coat and all that’s in between. I want to have a professional looking sweet paintjob when I’m done. What types of paint bases and such do I need to use for a color shifting metalic paintjob… maybe with some fine flake?.. any advise would be great.

if you want a professional paint job go get one. dont try this by yourself, you’ll most likely mess it up.

u’ll definately fuck up when it comes to the clearing stage.

what your asking is the second hardest thing to paint, aside from 7 stage candy coating.

my advice, dont do it just take the money and do a standard job, go look for pics of my car, i did it in my garage.

its not as easy as it seems, the only reason why mine came out nice was that i had previous experience.

if you have no prior experience spraying with guns then dont waste your money.

I’ve painted before… but I just used cheap paint and clear mixed together from napa… and painted a front bumper from blue to black which turned out fine… I have sprayed before, I’ve also painted a civic with rattle cans… I just am not fimilar with how to go about color chaning paint… I’m not looking for take it to a professinoal… I have a compressor and a couple paint guns and am looking to do it myself… I just need to know what I need as far as primer bases and clears… I know how to paint… just not what kinda of paint I need in each layer

I’m looking for some tutorials on using house of kolor paint to get a nice color changing look on my car.

I don’t think you’re giving enough credit to the responses you’re getting. The paint you want to use is difficult to get right even with guys that do it daily. they have compressors, regulators to maintain constant low pressure, not to mention a paint booth to protect the drying paint from contaminants and filter out the pollutants from the paint and keep them from getting into the air we breath. and then there’s the whole EPA thing if you get caught or a pissed off neighbor rats on you. you’re going to end up spending alot of money on paint for what you want to do and will either end up being dissatisfied with the results or spend more money fixing the runs/contamination that will most likely be there. better off dropping it off somewhere and paying the money for someone else to do it. then if something isn’t right they fix it on their dime and you don’t spend countless hours wet sanding and buffing or respraying.

…I’m building a booth… plastic walls… one fan intake on the garage… one fan outtake… both filtered… I can spray in my garage/booth, wait for the flash time… respray… I guess I’m not gonna do the color changing deal and I setteled for a 1 gal of green metalic, and 1 gal of gun metal metallic… I’m gonna mix them together and add fine green flakes… spray primer… spray the color… spray clear with some flakes… and call it a day

i dont think your gettin the credit u should be.
You stated that you want to do it yourself…First…the color is all up to you.
second you gotta prep the car…sand , bondo/fiberglass, weld…watever. :search:
thats all up to ure own bein if you beleive you can do…feel free…u havto to try it sometime…good luck hope for the best
3rd…sounds like you hav a nice fixture to work in…wish i had somin like that when i just did my quarter panel…wich by the way…was was my first time and i must say the damn thing looks like a pro did it…only had practice once on my cousins 94 ls…looked good to tho…i must b a reg.
compressor…u must hav one since u wanna do gravity fed…which is alot diff from spray can but im sure ure not as clueless as every1 thinks u r…but you appently hav som pract with the bacis mechanics. regulater…if u want one go buy one…that simply.

good luck with everything…try ure best and u will be happy with it…something is better than notin…especially spendin 100 bucks rather than 2-3 thousand or somintimes more for a pro to do it and actually care about wats hes workin on
