help on passenger power window

what sup guys… i have a problem hope you guys can help me out … the problem is that the passenger side power windown goes up and down if i control it from the driver side but from the passenger side it only goes down … i 've tried changing the switch but still got the same problem … any ideas thanks

my guess is a bad wire to the switch. The rest of this post is speculation, I left my electrical schematics book of our DA’s at my parnets place after working on it this past weekend so I don’t know all the facts.

So I assume that there will be 3 wires to the button, or 2. In the case of 2, the frame is the “3rd wire” (I would assume… unless there’s some semi-complicated electrical stuff going on in there that I wouldn’t expect). I’m guessing that one of these wires corresponds to the window going down, and the other going up. When you touch these wires to the 3rd wire (or frame, as I said) then the window should go up and down. If one of those wires, the one corresponding to the window going up, has a break in it somewhere along the wire, then it wouldn’t go up.

If this is the case, I would sudgest tracking the wire down as far as you can looking for issues, in an old volvo I had it got caught in gears and would ground out the wire as I am describing so I just taped it up. If you don’t see any issues, then there may be a non-visible break where the wire was bent and broke internally or there might be a problem with the electrical connection to the window motor.

Beyond that point, I honestly need my electrical manual to give you much inteligent advice, sorry. In a week or so when I’m home for thanksgiving if you still haven’t figured out the solution I will try and remmember to look into it.

pull the switch out and get a multimiter. Check for continuity on the switch in different positions. Put the positive where the power enters the switch, then put the neg on one of the output wires. There should be no power going through. Then hit the switch up and down and see if the wire gets power. Then switch wires and hit up and down again. If both wires have power you have a bad wire. Which ever wire is hot in the up position is the bad wire in the harness. I did this in my 300zx and it worked but I haven’t actually torn into my teg doors in a while so I hope this makes sense. Good luck

 my 280zx and I salute your 300zx
(sorry for jumping in with the comment, but I had to. I love them Z’s)
