Help! Rebuilt My 93 Ls Tranny Or Get B16 Trany!?

MY TRANNY IS GONE! IT WONT SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR! IT KEEPS POPPING OUT! SO ITS TIME TO REBUILT IT. BUT I CANT DECIDE WEATHER I want to rebuild it or get a b16 tranny. if i rebuilt it atleast i know the gears wont be grinding or popping out. or if i get a jdm b16 tranny it may be almost as bad because i wont know how many miles are reALLY ON IT or what condition its in. and which one of the two will be cheaper? how much does a usual tranny rebuilt cost? my local machanic said 900$! is this too much?

anyone? help. i really need help cuz i have to decide by sunday. thanks:argh:

depending on whats being replaced that sounds like a good price. the 3rd gear mainshaft and contershaft gears w/syncro are $500 my cost, and I work for honda. i think they are over $600 your cost. so thats only $300 labor to take out a trans and rebuild it. just make sure you’re getting both the mainshaft and countershaft gears replaced with oem shit and it sounds like a decent deal

Which motor do u have? LS? GSR? is it N/A? turbo? I have a B18B with a B16 tranny and it is extremely short geared. I am at 4k RPM’s at about 70 MPH in 5th gear. If your N/A with a LS I would get a GSR tranny. If you have a N/A GSR get a B16 or type R tranny. If your turbo LS I would keep the LS tranny. Or you could get a B16 tranny and put in a LS 5th gear. I think thats what I might do. But I need to do some more research on it.

i have an ls. i have the YS1 that comes on the 92-93 integra. yeah i would love to get a gs-r transmission but…its almost impossible to find one!!! it would be nice to have that close ratio 5 speed gs-R cable tranny in my da. :ohyeah:

Sorry to kind of jack the thread but dont GSR’s also have YS1 tranny? Since they both have the same code how can you tell if you are buying a gsr or a 92-93 tranny?

you could always get gears 1-3 for a gsr and keep 4 and 5 from the ls to keep good gas mileage… that would be all new gears for whats getting the most beating. it would prolly run you atleast $1500 just in parts though.

yeah you’re right tegra! you wont be able to tell if its a real gs-r tranny till you install it and see if it has short gears! damn that sucks! well, im having a hard ass time finding a tranny to swap into my beloved DA.

hey, if youre interested i have a b16 j1 tranny for sale, check my posts under my profile.

I say rebuild it yourself here are two places to get parts.
