Hey guys,
my car is almost at 150,000 miles. I bought it last october with about 139,000 on it. I have done a lot to it so far to make sure it is in good shape. i have replaced the clutch(put in factory), brake rotors, brake pads, struts, springs, water pump, timing belt, transmission(old one blew) the cable for the clutch, new master cylinder, replaced the valve cover gasket, replaced the transmission seal ( i think that is what it was called) had a compression test, (cylinder 1= 185, #2= 185, #3=180, and #4=185), replaced galley plugs, replaced axle seals, replaced flywheel, replaced transmission mount, new oil pan and seal.
It has been running strong all summer. The only problem i have is it burns oil, and it has the loudest damn ticking coming from by the intake manifold, which is wierd, since i have had a valve adjustment done by acura and i thought that would fix it. (any suggestions for either)
I was thinking about swapping an engine, then i thought about rebuilding, but i can’t drop to much cash right now. The engine is great like i said, so i am going to go ahead and do cam gears, pulleys, act clutch, intake, header, and custom exhaust for the time being.
I am curious what all else should be done around this time. The acura maintanence book ended at a lesser mileage than i have. Should i do a fuel pump replacement now, spark plugs, fan belt, clean out the intake manifold?
Basically what all is vital and necessary to do on my car at this mileage, before i go to put the bolt ons on it. . I want to make sure everything is in good shape. I don’t really care if it is early to be fixing some stuff, while i have the cash and time, i would really like to go ahead and get any and all things that need to be fixed in the near future replaced so i can have full confidence in the engine and it’s capabilities.
Thanks,
chris
Should i do a fuel pump replacement now
don’t need to do that, just change the fuel filter.
change the timing belt recently? every 70,000-80,000 miles.
inspect the fan belts.
why did you change your springs???
other than that it seems you’re doing everything needed. about oil consumption, honda motors consume oil. the 1994 teg we have eats about a quart before the oil change. my 1991 teg eats about 1/2 of a quart before an oil change. oil loss happens.
If it’s consuming a lot of oil, it’s probably your piston rings, in which case you’re looking at quite a bit of time and quite a bit of money.
As for the ticking, it’s probably your injectors. Take them out and replace them or get them cleaned.
Other suggestions for maintenance – spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, fuel filter.
As for replacing his springs – they do take a lot of abuse ,and mine, for instance started crumbling. My front springs were broken in 2 or 3 places when I finally replaced them. Stupid salt…
thanks for your help guys. I had called acura and they gave me some bogus answers so i thought i would check with all of you.
I changed my springs because my factory springs, 3 of the 4 were also broken and crumbling. I just decided to put on neuspeed sports.
Thanks again for the help.
