help with cv axle...

how did you get the cv axle out,i tried hammering it out but the grooves are pretty stuck.

Wedge a prybar between the CV joint and the transmission and just pry. It’ll take little-to-no effort and it’ll just slide right out.

its the drivers side.

Doesnt matter…

this brings me to a ? i forgot about but just remembered…i was told two different things about replacing a busted cv boot which mine is… ok first i was told you have to replace the whole axle, then i was told NO you just have to replace the boot, which one…and if you leave it unfixed for a while, what can happen exept for the popping noise?

the problem that im having is getting the outer cv joint out of the hub, the part with the grooves won’t come out.what do i use to get it out? a hammer didnt work.

i got the whole axle off, now im having trouble getting it back in.

::1SLIKTEG:: it depend on what your talking about, a ripped cv BOOT or a broken CV joint??? if your boot is simply ripped you need only replace the boot, if your actual CV joint is broken (vibration and/or clicking noise during turns) then you need to relace the joint that is inside the boot. usually the prices can run you about or more for replacing jus the joint, that’s why you hear so many people jus recommend to replace the whole axle when the joints are bad. its waaaaay easier and often time less expensive. you only need to replace a CV joint when it has been operating without grease for a long time and has become “loose” or does not function as it was designed to from the factory. jus relacing your cv boots is actualy harder then doin the whole axle too hahahhaha… but whose gonna go blow 150+ on a new axle jus for a 60.00 cv boot job hahhaha… jus remember if the BOOT is bad jus change the boot. if the JOINT is bad ya might jus wanna change the whole axle… and what i always recommend is that when you something to one side of the car (IE; left side axle) jus do the same to the opposite side (IE; right side axle). it sux to tell people that it is better if they do both, even if its not broken, cause ya know they both came with the car at the same time. who knows when the other will break as well. i dont know if you understand but i tried…

phat ac, its a biatch gettin that axle back in, u gotta try angleing the hub part first and then connect it to the tranny or intermediate shaft. We took apart some of the suspension so the hub can swivel a bit more. And make sure u hammer that suckker in when u get it into the splines…tat’s so u make sure its in the tranny or itnermediate shaft.

im going to try to get into the intermediate shaft once i get home(im at school, damn this is addicting), i sure hope i goes in this time.

thanks,
ryan

SPEEDDADDY…thanx for the input, i really dont understand the last part of this paragraph, i dont know exactly what you mean but its ok…im gonna have to go ahead and replace the whole darn axle cuz it pops pretty darn loud.:stuck_out_tongue:
