ok so i got a brand new distributor from a friend for my 93 GSR. put it on, unhooked battery and pulled the backup fuse and pumped the brake pedal to discharge any current in the vehicle. let it sit for a few minutes then put everything back together. car cranked and after 5 seconds cel came back on. checked the code and its still the cyp sensor code 9. what else do i need to try? and this is not a reman distributor either. it is new straight out of the box.
anybody have any ideas? ive searched and searched but no definitive answer
clear the code papo…search button helps alot …i found it before
i cleared the code several times. as soon as i crank the car back up after about 5 seconds its back on. and i did search. i replaced the distributor with a brand new one and still have the code. i think my timing may be slightly off. maybe a stratched t-belt. gonna be replacing all the timing side components. belt, waterpump, tensioner and oil pump
theres really only one way to fix your problem and it seems youve done it. I would check your pinouts… at the distrib/engine harness. engine harness/cab harnss and finally at the ecu. check to make sure your pins are secure, and not corroded or bent/missing. then ohm everything out and make sure there are no breaks in the wire somewhere. obviusly wire routing and schematics are helpful in doing this.
i checked all the connections on the plugs for the distributor and the egine harness connections as well as the ecu plugs. everything checked out great. im not very good at using the meters to determine the right ohmage so any help on what to do there will be greatly appreciated. i have a very nice meter but ive only used it for checking voltage.
if checking the harness for breaks, you check from the distributor pinout to the ECu pinout when on OHMs. it should read close to zero. there shouldnt be any resistance between the ECU and dist. make sure to wiggle the wires around while checking the resistance to help find a break in teh wire. if it reads OL there is an open, so while you move the wires around, if it fluctuates its possible theres a break do you have a spare computer you can try as well?
no i dont have a spare ecu. and a p61 isnt easy to come by. i may be able to borrow a friends jdm p72 tho since its obd1 as well. im gonna check the wires hopefully tomorrow.
i just noticed this, but you said you got it from a friend. is this really a brand new distributor? or is it just a used one he had layinga round?
it was brand new in the box still sealed in bubble wrap. he actually ordered it using my computer. he ended up getting rid of his B17 and kept the distributor he ordered
