Help with dc bezel mod into a da????

Hey guys new here and ive been wanting to do the dc cluster into a da for a while now. Finaly got it started and got all the clips wired up. I put a 98 Gsr cluster I had around into my 91 rs. Just got 2 problems 1 is how do I hook up the wires to the vss? And 2 how do i go about molding the 94 dc bezel into my da? If you guys can help that will be great. thanxx

  1. the vss on our cars has the speedo cable going to it. big thick cable… sound familiar?

  2. how do u seriously plan on accomplishing this? cuz realistically i’d assume u’d have to rip out the dash or most of it so u can have access to cut out the dimensions for the new bezel. then u gotta worry about making brackets, cuz none of the screws/holes will line up. you have a better chance putting in a dc2 COMPLETE dash into the car, than u do just putting the bezel. a member was doing this, and got pretty far the last time i checked. had the main frame of the dash, but not the lil parts in yet. it isn’t gonna be easy.

Yea I thought the same but started to read some post and saw that it can be done. Yesterday I decide to get started so I downloaded both wiring schenatics for the da and dc off a website. Found out what wires do what, what wires gotta go connected to where, ect. I had a dc Gsr cluster but turned out I put it in a box over the summer so nothing would happen to it and it so have happen I ended up putting the box in my basement and my basement flooded this past summer.:bang: So today I went to my friend’s shop and he gave me a 98 Gsr cluster he had laying around. So I got home and started splicing all the wire together and finished the connections. Turned the key to the acc all lights came on worked fine, then started the car. Fuel gauge working good, temp gauge good, tach working good, but I just need to hook up my electronic speed sensor. So im working on gettin one now. And my friend is helping me with the bezel molding and making the bracket for the cluster.

G2ic fellow member did it to his car thats what got me wanting to do it:

When im done ill post everything up for this swap incase anyone wants to do it for there g2. Not hard the only hard problem is the bezel molding, I hope at least.

:werd: cant wait to see the results…

seems like a lot of work for no real purpose to me… esp. if its in km

Nah man, that shit is sexy!

Besides, you can get a speedo from a US type R & swap it in.

i see… i see it in there, but its pretty easy to see that it doesn’t look very clean in there either. only thing i’m liking from those pics is that all the lights work in the heater controls n such, and also within the switches.

its not all that bad, just that more can be done to make it look clean, cuz if u are willing to go that far, u should be able to go a lil farther and make it look clean. just my $0.02

He should have posted a pic with the finished bezel.

I did that. Yeah the KM got old after a while, but once you figure out what speeds are what, you get used to it quick. A lot of people would get in my car and not even notice the cluster swap at first. Even friends of mine with DA’s. The finish on the install looked oem. I’ll try to see if I have pic from further back showing more of the interior. But I don’t think I do. And I can’t take another as I took out that kit and sold the setup.

The Vss has 3 wires to it. 2 can be hooked up to wires in the engine bay (ground, and ignition power), the other is the signal which gets ran back into the car and hooked up to the cluster, I think thats the orange wire. On some VSS’s it’s also blue.

Molding the bezel. The best way is to get a dc bezel. Cut about 3/4 to 1" off the back side and keep that and toss the front part. Then cut about that much off the back of the da bezel. Mount the cluster in place. Have you already got it mounted? I had to cut about an little less than an inch off the top mounting section on the itr cluster and redrill a new hole. Then make a bracket that bolted to the dc cluster and had the same mounting tabs on it as the da cluster. Once I got the cluster mounted and centered I covered it with masking tape. Then taped the thin piece of dc bezel that I cut earlier to cluster. Then put the da bezel back in. More cutting on the da bezel might be necessary. Once that is cut enough so they both come close to each other. Then I used some Duramix 4040 to bond them (being replaced with Duramix/3M 04240. I just did 4 small dabs in the corners. Then after it set up I pulled it out and put masking tape on the back side of the gaps and filled in the front with the duramix. The bottom corners needed quite a bit to fill that rounded contour. You will need a dremel with sanding bits, and a round sanding block to make sanding easier. Make sure you cover up everything else in the car cause that duramix shit is messy as fuck and will not come out of anything if it drips on the carpet or something. And wear gloves as it’s a bitch getting it off your hands. Buy extra tips cause they last once used and that shit sets up quick so you don’t get much duramix out before it clogs up the tip. Oh and don’t use the first bit that comes out of the gun/tip, it’s usually more of one part than that other, so squeeze that first part out onto some newspaper and then used it on the bezel. After I got it all filled in and sanded, I sprayed the thing with some texture spray to get the texture back on the inside area. Just misted it. Then sprayed with a black SEM or other brand plastic/vinyl paint.

You can probably also use that 2 part epoxy they sell at hardware stores, that comes in a small bottle and you squeeze out and mix yourself. But get the stuff that is not runny. The stuff that has the short setup time is usually thicker. You will probably need a few tubes of it. But personally I think duramix has a better bond. And after you see how awesome that shit is you will used it for all kinds of shit.

Here’s another pic I found in my photobucket. Going north on I5 just got off the bottom of the grapevine and got gas and then back on the road and decided to have some fun lol. When I get home i’ll look through my computer too see if there is a further away shot.

Oh and the jdm itr cd player i had in there too

looks pretty clean. now that does look oem. except for the maxed out speedo
