Help With ECU Codes - Code 1

Hey,
I checked my codes like 3 weeks ago and I was getting code 43 and Code 1. I replaced the fuel filter as per someone’s advice and just checked it again today as I am about to install a new cat. I get only code 1 now. Which is nice. So i figured I would reset the ecu and let the car idel for 20min to see if the code 1 came back or not. The check engine light will only come on above 100km/s when I am in 3rd or 4th gear for any amount of time (more than 5 seconds).

Anyways i reset the thing and when I jumper the connector not and turn the key the check engine light just stays on solid. Does this mean there is no codes in the ECU at the current time or did i fry something?

Im gonna go try to make the check engine light come on and see if the code 1 comes back that way.

If that is the case does that mean my O2 is bad or is it just getting messed up by the clogged cat?

Note: the new cat has not been installed yet. I want to fix whatever clogged the other one first.

Thanks for the help guys,

come on guys

99% sure it’s your O2 sensor. A bad O2 sensor is almost always the cause of a code 43 as well. Your cat condition would not cause the ECU to throw any codes because there are no sensors after the cat, however a damaged or failing O2 sensor will cause premature wear of the catalytic converter due to running extra rich.

So why isn’t the code 1 or 43 back now? I have been driving for a day and nuttin… I replaced the cat because the other one was clogged but the car still smells like sulfur when driving at high rpm. could the 02 cause this? I also have new ngk plugs and taylor wires.

i don’t know if this helps or not, but when both of my o2’s weren’t hooked up and i was getting a code one, the check engine wouldn’t come on all the time. some times it was in high rpms other times it was in lower rpms, and then sometimes it was not at all. try changing you o2 and see if that helps.
