yes it could be the shaft/bearing is bad i did changed mine too before but the whole assembly. are you sure its coming from the distributor? it could be anything else from your engine or maybe your speedometer cable at the back of your cluster or one of your belts that is squeeking.
Only one way to know for sure. Use a sharpie and draw a straight line from the top of the distributor housing all the way to the and the camshaft cap that holds the distributor. Remove the three 12mm bolts that hold the distributor and spin the shaft. You will feel/hear if the bearings are going out. Put the distributor back on, line it up with the mark you made and let us know what you found out.

Not trying to thread jack, but I am also having a squeeking sound from my distributor after I chAnged the old and busted oring. My squeek may be the oring needing more lube, I dont know what exactly your squeek sounds like but along with the other ideas you may want to check that oring and see how it’s looking… Just a idea, always start with the little shit first. Good luck bro
If the squeak is indeed coming from the distributor (you can check by putting a long screwdriver on top of the distributor and listening at the end) then the bearing is going bad. Replace it before it locks up.
Can you replace just the bearing?
Don’t hold me to it but I don’t think that part is serviceable. I just replaced the whole thing.
Same here. You could hear the bearing grind when you spun the shaft. Had to replace the whole thing.
So i had time today to check the car out and even better i spoke during the week with an O.G. honda tech.he said that every time you change the timing belt your suppose to service the bearing inside the distributer adding couple drops of oil or any king of lube in it … Bearing went out on mines cuz i sat the car for too long i had time to go into the wrecking yard and yank me a distributer and no more mice in my engine bay …thanks every one for your help
“no more mice in my engine bay” Lol, that’s a pretty adequate description as to what it sounds like. Sorry I couldn’t offer my advice earlier, I had this problem about a year ago. I just swapped it out for a new distributor and it’s been good ever since. Glad you fixed yours!

anyone have bad experience with advance auto distributors? i bought one, from there already because basically mine failed. well…now the squeaking has come back again.
