help with the "3500rpm rattle"

word. I’ll try that out this afternoon. Thanks

Alright i know what it is. Its really fast vibration right? like a Buzzz then i goes away then returns sometimes? Thats the accessory shelf on the back of the hatchback. Its not sealed tight at at around 3500 rpms it vibrates against the trunk lid. i haven’t figured out how to fix it yet but i have pinpointed the noise.

Um not quite…

I am almost positive that it is the exhaust, as when I have someone gas it, I can get down and I hear it almost right down there. I guess I just have to figure out how to get my a$$ under there to fix it… maybe this is a dad job…

rattle

I havew the same crappy problem…when i get to 3500-4000+ rpm i get a weird metal/metal rattle but when i take off the throttle it goes away…i just found out i’m missing a bolt in my rear engine mount so maybe thats it…i’m swapping my headers and cat pretty soon so if one of those things fixes it i’ll let you know.

I get a rattle when I WOT at medium rpm’s (2000-4000), usually in 2nd to 5th.
But no rattle when I let off the throttle.

i get the same rattle… but thats was only after i fixed my tb (where the idle fluctuates) i have a new full exhaust system and h22 … its happens for me on cold mornings… sounds like metal clanging like a loose bit somewhere… still acnt find where it is… but it goes away after its warm…

its like a sharp cling cling cling

really fast too

ur exhaust is loose, that is the rattle sound

Annoying rattle @110kmh

I hear a lot of speculation on what it might be, but no real concrete solutions.

I have a 92 GSR and when I do about 3900 rpm in any gear my shifter rattles like mad. The worst part is, that’s the exact rpm that’s cruising speed on the highway (110kmh) so I have to live with that frustrating noise for half an hour, every day on my way to uni.

I’ve taken the entire shift assembly apart over the summer with no luck. I put in a short shifter and remove the entire heat shield, still the same thing.

My folks have a 90 sedan and they have the same thing, aside from it being a different rpm. 110kmh is more like 3400rpm for them, but with the exact same, distinct noise.

I’m going to do further research into this, but hopefully somebody can have some insight. From what I understand it’s not anything to do with the linkage itself. Something is resonating from the engine for sure. Who knows.

I too have a rattle, but between 2 and 2.5k rpms. I got a new oem muffler (mechanic recommended it, and the old one did have stuff moving around), that didnt help. But when i looked under the car while jabbing the gass pedal, i was able to find out that the noise wasnt even coming from the rear…rather the front. (but the new oem acura muffler has somewhat of a nice deep tone to it. very subtle, but definately enough to be noticed compared to my old one.)

I tried undoing the bolts on the a pipe and the heatshield for the exhaust manifold, but most of the bolts haven’t been touched for 13 some years, and half of them are in freaking hard to reach places. i wonder how you can even fit a wrench down there (or up there from underneath the car for that matter).

I’m taking it to a mechanic next thursday and while he’s replacing the oil pan gasket (which needs a part of the exhaust removed), i will have him take a look at it.

This is a great thread honstly. I have this same exact problem on my Teg. I took the heatshield off the cat and it makes no diffrence. I also have a pinging noise when i turn the car off after driving for a little bit. It sounds like a pinging noise from teh exhaust as if something was like dripping on it. I thought that sound would dissapear, but it actually must be comming from inside of the exhaust pipe or something. Anyone got that sound going on?

Nick

Got the same problem. Everytime I let of the pedal when slowing down it makes a nasty rattle noise. It sounds like that there’s a loose bolt inside the cat somewhere. I have a megan header and greddy sp2 catback. I think my exhaust could be loose.

EDIT
nevermind.
