Ok so I finally got a chance to see what was going on with the “typewriter” Both the gasket that goes between the header and the head is cracked and the one for the y-pipe is craked and shaking around. The thing that freaked me out was that around the flange on cylinder #3 there was a tiny bit of blackish brownish goo (just a little) and I can’t tell if its from my cam seal leak (oil all over from that) or not. When I sat there pulling the throttle I didn’t see anything coming out. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks,
It is probably just a carbon buildup where the gasket is leaking. Put a new gasket on there, tighten everything to spec and wipe off that crap and see what happens. That should do it for you.
A liquid?? No, carbon usually just looks like a burn on the head/header.
I dont know what a liquid goo as you said would be there… Never heard of it and never seen it.
Try cleaning it off, putting on new gaskets and seeing what happens. Take it for a test drive after that.
You might also want to do a compression test to make sure you dont have a blown head gasket.
That is about all the help that I can be thus far. Try those things and let me know what happens…
Does the “goo” look like its coming from inside the head??
I was thinking it couldbe a blown head gasket as well, but its only on one port. Its maybe 3cm and It looks like oil. My cam seal leak seems to be really bad, I think tat might be where its coming from. I had a compression test done about a month ago and I can’t remember the numbers off the top f my head, but the guy said that for an engine with a 150,ooo miles that was amazing that the comp wa so good. The oil from the cam seal is coverig th frontpart of thetranny case an a littlein front of he block. Any other ideas?
And it looks like it is coming from inside the head??
It might be a good idea to take it to an honda/acura dealer and see what they have to say about that. Without being there to see it I cant really help you out much more.
