Hit and run. I recommend getting a dashcam and video record right after an incident

Am still agitated at work, so I figure I might as well vent and hopefully this will help someone in the future.

I was sitting in the drive thru at Mic Ds when a dodge ram 1500 wasn’t paying attention and rear ended me. The bumper cover still looked good, but it damaged the rear bumper support. It wasn’t much, but it was my beloved db2 so I wanted it fixed. The guy gets out of his truck and we talk. He said he was sorry and that there was no damage. I pointed out that the bumper support was bent and now there is a gap between the bumper and rear quarter panel. I told him if he doesn’t want insurance involved, i will take it to an autobody shop to get fixed and send him the bill. So we go back and forth like this for awhile and then he says the damage may have already been there. That is when I had enough, and told him i will file for a police report and call my insurance. He tells me that we can meet at the right side after he picks up his food.

So I pull over to the right and he bones out to the left and takes off down the street. Crap, we didn’t exchange info and I am going to be late to work. I Google the non emergency police department number and gave them all the info. Luckily, as the guy was walking back to his truck, I had my phone and recorded him walking back to his truck and had zoomed on his license plates. Gave the dispatcher the full description of him with the truck info.

One of my co-workers hubby works for the Pd. She told me the these crimes are not highly important, since the area I work is not a good area, so the Pd will probably not get back to me and I would have to file a report at the station on Monday. Feeling pretty bummed that I have to drive back out here to file a report, deal with insurance on Monday. A few hours go by and then an officer gives me a call and I go meet up with him. I gave him all the info I gave to dispatch. I showed him the dash cam footage also. The Officer says he will pay the guy a visit tonight.

About an hour later, the Officer calls back. States that the guy is willing to work through insurance to get the db2 fixed or i can file charges for hit and run misdemeanor. He says that I was yelling, he got all nervous and booked it. He a 6 foot guy weighing a little over 200 and I am 5’ 10 a little over a buck 60. And he was afraid of me?? Luckily, the dash cam picked up the conversation. Talk about a lack of responsibility and now lack of credibility. I decided to file charges, and will see him in court. I believe he will be spending the night in a holding cell.

What a headache. If i had brung my lunch pail to work, none of this would have transpired.

You fellas have a good night

People refuse to accept responsibility, any more. At least is sounds that things will be resolved. I had a similar incident, with my beloved '69 Chevy C-10 hot rod. Some (insert expletive here) rear-ended me at a stop light. We both pull over, make sure everyone is okay… then, he left. Gave the officer all the info, including the out of state license plate number, and never heard another word. Meanwhile, I’m the one stuck with the damaged truck and the body shop bill.

I pretty much don’t like people, any more.

That really sucks Quang, I’m sorry to hear that but glad you’ve got your bases covered!

Never leave home with out it. poeple cant be trusted even the slightest bit any more.

I have a blackvue 2 ch DR650GW in the Teg and my ladies 2016 civic and a finevu cr-500hd in the daily both have Been an amazing investment but a black box is recomended, The finevu is great but the blackvue has front and rear cameras and can video can be watched via the phone app.

the best part. watching all the videos of peoples bad driving and other random funny shit.

Sorry to hear man, good for you in pressing charges.

Thought the post got deleted. Did’t see it in the general forum. lol

Best thing it seems is to go to the station and file a police report. Also, the insurance company, in my case Allstate is going to go after his insurance now. Allstate is waiting for the police report.

Hey Colin, good to hear from you. Got very lucky with the camera phone. If it wasn’t for that, he would have gotten away with it. Now for the long process of waiting for the police report and court date :bang: PS when things settle down, which takes me awhile, I am going to copy your B17 build  By the way, I still have your turbo kit sitting my garage :gay:

Thanks for the info. I will look into getting a rear view camera also. I have the rexing v1 and my wife uses the black box b40-c. I agree with the black box being good. My wife has had it for over 2 years now daily in the socal sun. Though the video resolution is better with the rexing v1
