hmm, about hood dampers.

i have a question. im going to be getting a CF hood when i get my tax return and would really liketo use hood shocks/dampers to hold it up. i realize they wont work since the hood is so light. so my question is, are there any cars that have a hood damper application, whose stock metal hood weight is as close to the weight of a DA CF hood as possible. i was thinking maybe an MR2 or something. Miata maybe? i figure if the dampers are made for a stock metal hood thats 13 lbs, they should work the same way for a 13lb CF hood.

( i dont really know the weights, i just used a random number)

i just like the idea of being able to work without the hood prop in the way.that and ive heard of people putting their CF hood up on a prop on a hot day and having the hood warp after a few hours.

its either this or use a combo of hood pins and locks to make the hood lift off. which i kinda like too but im unsure how to do it. help with either is appreciated.

I’d be more worried about the hood having the strength to push the pistons back down.

look into late model 300zx’s, the 90-96 ones. some had fiberglass hoods from the factory most were aluminum, either way they were light. they might have a little bit larger of a market for a hood damper than what our car does.

thanks

any other thoughts?

wrx hoods are light as hell

word, thanks alot, im waiting for a reply for Seibon on maybe a chart of apps that compare stock Vs CF hood.

Well,

first off…what brand hood are you getting? VIS and Seibon are pretty heavy version hoods. I personally have a Fiber Images hood and its comparably lighter than VIS or Seibon.

Hood Dampers are NOT RECOMMENDED for CARBON FIBER HOODS. If you read closely for some of the dampers out there, it will state that.

What I do when I work on my car is that I prop the hood all the way back so that it can stand up on its own. Behind the hood hinges, you’ll see a metal tab held down by one screw, take those off, and you’ll be able to prop them all the way up.

im getting seibon
