well, i certianly wont be the first to say, auto tranny tegs are slow. And, im not asking for advice on wether or not i should do it, but is it possible? All b20’s came as automatics from the factory correct? So, then a CRVtec setup mated to g2 auto tranny with a g2 auto ecu would work right? If not, whats needed? Also, ive been wondering, people who do the b20 route, and hook it up to a manual, is that a little difficult? No one has ever addressed the issue that a B20 was designed for an automatic transmission in a crv mini-suv… so wouldnt an auto tranny be more appropiate for that engine considering its designed for one?
The LS tranny will bolt directly up to the auto b20. The only thing you have to do is swap diff flywheels and add a clutch and bolt on!! At least thats what I did

If your car is an automatic and you want to use a B20 with it, it will work with the stock ECU(s). If you’re going to put a VTEC head on that B20, look for an automatic B16 ECU, it has the VTEC controls on it and the fuel mapping too.
Any there were 5-speed CRV’s…

Just wondering… do you have an auto in your car? the b20 setup is faily inexpensive (800 bucks) on hondamotorsonline.com, so im thinking its a fairly good way to get some better power out of my car without wasting a ton of money considering my trannys auto… just wondering if you have this auto tranny setup, and how does it feel, that is, if you have an auto? how much of a hp and torque gain do you suppose? what header do you use for the b20? just a b18a header?
thanks
steve
toohott4handlin - naw… i got rid of the auto a few months back (before the b20) so I couldnt tell you really what its like. I did find out though that I had the auto ECU still when I swapped in my b20 which was holding back a little power (put in a 5 spd ECU that night)
Ya, they have a killer deal on those there. Thats where I got mine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!! but even with the auto im sure you’ll notice a good gain. even though the power isnt that much more (if any at all??) but the torque is especially nice…
I also have the DC 4-2-1 ceramic header.
If you have any other questions let me know!

Dev90GS: How much did it cost to get your tranny done… i briefly considered doing this, but i figured id wait and get a 5speed in my next car, and save the headache… however, im still considering the possibility, and im wondering if you did it yourself or had it installed? If you had it installed how much was it? Would you do it agian or was it not worth it?
thanks

I didn’t do it myself. I don’t think I could have the patience (sp?) to do that swap. I paid like close to $1800 from a Honda/Acura dealer to do it with all parts (except the ECU) included. After it was done I was talking to the mechanic and he said the only hard part was having to take out the steering column, which I wouldn’t want to do. But if you have the confidence to do it, Shea I think has a write up on the swap. I skimmed through it and he has it pretty much all there. I think if I had the time to have my car down and a parts car there with all the parts I would try it just b/c I like working on my own car. But my advice is if you don’t already have much money into your car then just sell it and buy a 5 speed that you like. But like me I already had quite a bit of money into my car so I just decided to go with it. Plus its somewhat original doing this swap. Although its getting more and more popular. Well now that I typed your eyes off
I hope I was some help. Let me know if you have any other questions and ill try to answer them to my best of knowledge! ![]()
Later!
