Honda Parts list for B17A1

What? Sarcasm!? On the Internet?! What is wrong with you, boy?

Alright, Mr. I’ll-just-paint-my-entire-car-while-building-the-engine, here is the rundown in groups to put it in perspective: These totals are using some ITR parts, but should be roughly the same on a stock B17 (with the exception of the FITV delete parts.)

Replace all hoses/gaskets in PCV system: $44
Power Steering pump rebuild parts: $28
Lost Motion Assemblies: $180
Bearings: $175
Rings: $105
O-rings/Gaskets/Seals (separately, not grouped into cheaper kits): $310
Coolant Hoses and thermostat: $110
Timing Belt/Water pump stuff: $185
FITV delete: $50
All Sensors except knock: $140
Knock Sensor (I’ll wait for this one to go out before replacing): $116.97
Skunk2 VTEC solenoid valve cover: $30

Oh my… Someone had their haterade this morning!

Have you looked into or thought about having your tuner disable your Knock Sensor though? I mean if you have the sensor and wiring already, then its no biggie to run it… But if you still need to wire it up and find a sensor, I’d just have it disabled and call it a day. The vtec subharness I bought came with the wiring, but I didnt want to have to drill & tap my block (B18b’s dont have the knock, obviously) and purchase the sensor… When I told this to my tuner he said that he disables them anyway on 99% of tunes, unless the owner is really wanting it to remain functional.

Not that i’m trying to give you more stuff to think about, but ya’know, thats my style…

Looked into the Knock Sensor a bit. Interesting. The car is a GS-R though so everything is already wired up. But, if it does ever go out, I will probably just uncheck that box in the Hondata.

<— Skunk2 Fanboy Checking in! (lol)

I’m surprised you’re getting this part, is there a reason? Personally I think it’s really ugly. I guess if you were going for a real flat color scheme, maybe a “military” type look then it would make sense, but even then it’s got Skunk2’s logo all over it. I can’t seem to find a good pic of mine, but I really like the look of just polishing the stock solenoid cover. Or you could get an aftermarket cover and polish that (might be easier). The skunk2 piece just looks so “blah” to me…

I was totally just messing around. I always talk about that particular piece because to me it is the culmination of years and years of “ricey” crap:
There are so many other things which are practically useless on the street (brake fluid sock comes to mind)
products which, if designed properly could do something but in practice do nothing (ebay-brand rear lower tie bars),
products which masquerade as being made for our cars that aren’t (Skunk2 front upper camber kit arms),
or even products that are just pretty (or are designed to be pretty) like carbon fiber spark plug covers and steel braided hose covers in the engine bay…
but that damn thing is completely and utterly useless! To me it essentially says “I find buying shit easier than cleaning.” It is like putting down carpet in the kitchen instead of mopping the dirty tile floor! (and no that is not some weird lesbian euphemism, weirdos).

But yeah, totally just joking around. I think it is completely ridiculous…But. There is also a part of me that would think it was hilarious every time I opened the hood. That would get a kick out of posting a picture of it online and having people just dog on me for it. Although more likely, people would just say nothing and wouldn’t see the irony as that piece would pertain to the rest of my build.

Haha! OK, I was hoping it was a joke… I’m all for buying parts purely for aesthetic reasons, there are definitely some parts on my car that are primarily cosmetic w/ no performance benefit… but that solenoid cover is just UGLY! haha.

Damn you both with your sarcasm!
