Hot/Cold air knob problem

91 LS

I have a problem…I parked my car about 3 months ago for work. When I did, since it was summer, I had the little knob turned to cold. After working on my front end/exhaust, I pulled it out of the garage today. Now I have a new problem. When the car was up to operating temp, I tryed to turn the knob from cold to hot. It would not turn. After a little coaxing, It started to turn, made a large click, and turned freely to warm…problem is, there isn’t warm air coming out. So when I tryed turning it back to cold, heard said loud click again, and it turned to cold. It will turn about a 1/5 of the way around, and it’s actually working (I can hear it loading down the engine as if to switch to warm) but it’s not throwing warm air, only less cold. I’m worried about the loud click, too…seeing as alot of the parts in these cars is plastic, I’m worried I may have rounded off a little gear or something.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Anyone else have this problem before? This one is new to me…

i say u pull that part out, and replace it. it ain’t very hard and it shouldn’t be much at the junkyard or with someone parting out there car.

Problem is, I dont’ know where to start with it. I’m guessing that since the car sat so long, the switch under the hood that switches from hot to cold got stuck. I’m going to go out tommarow with a screw driver just to see if its starting to switch over, if not, I’ll have to pull it out and either try to fix it or replace. If thats not it, I don’t know what else it could be.

on the heater hose there is a kind of wire lever thing on there. u could check if its working or not.
