How can you determine B18B specs?

hi there, i have a b18b and i was wondering how i can tell
what YEAR it is…
and is it JDM or USDM?

thanks!

Which valve cover did it come with?? Its USDM.

is it b18b1 or just b18b on the stamp?? usdm finish with a number, jdm finish with a letter…example, b18b is jdm, b18b1 is usdm…by the year, on your head you can find the date manufactured stamp…just above the exhaust manifold.

mine says B18b

i checked above my exhaust manifold and there were 4 numbers encompassed by a circle thing…

do i need to remove the heat shield to see it?

you got it. What are the numbers in the circles

User g2-R:

Are you positive that your statement about the b-series block codes is correct?

grltnr, the first two numbers in the circles are the year that the head was cast, and no, you do not have to remove the heat shield to see these numbers. Let us know how you make out with your research!

yes i am positive about my statement…look at any stock honda with its usdm or cdm engine…it will end with a number in its code…look at any jdm engine and it will end with a letter

there are 2 numbers in each of the 4 circles?

It’s the first two numbers!

g2-R: How else could someone determine for certain the origin of a motor?

sorry to be noob, but do i count the first 2 digits in the first circle or 1 digit from the 1st circle and the 2nd digit from the 2nd circle

Everyone is a noob at some point. The first two digits in the first circle are the year of manufacture, the next circle’s numbers indicate month of manufacture.

Ex (9/3) (1/1) equals November of 93

in the VIN of the block, the first few letters determine where the engine was built, which pretty much lets you know if it’s usdm or american…i dont know what the letter will be you will have to search on that one, dont know them by heart

where is the VIN of the engine?

the series of numbers right under the engine’s alphanumeric code

under the “B18b”?

i dont see anything under that…?

Didn’t you just say you have a b18b? What do you mean Under b18a?

Haha you answered your own question. its a b18a. The number under the “b18a” is not the whole vin…should be about 8 digits if i am not mistaking.

sorry, i meant B18b,
i dont see any alphanumeric symbols under the “B18b”

Ahh okay
