How do I identify a short geared transmission by internals?

I’m going to look at a transmission that the guys says is from a true JDM B16. He says the sticker is half removed, so the only way of telling is by the internals I guess…

So how would one tell if it’s long geared or short geared? What gear should I count to determine?

bump

You want to count the teeth of the Main-Shaft Gear, as well as the Counter Shaft Gear… For all gears, 1-5. Then compare them to the list found here: http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/Bgears.htm

The "Teeth Count’ graph is only good for the Hydro Transmissions, but by using the other graph on top (the Gear Ratio graph) you can easily find out what trans you have if you take your Main/Counter Shaft gear teeth-count and divide them correctly to determine your gear-ratio.

Im half asleep, but it should be fairly self explanatory.

put the transmission in 4th gear by pushing the selector shaft straight in, then turn the input shaft 4.5 times, if the differential has made one full turn is it short geared, if it has made around 3.75 it is long geared. i was sold a bunk tranny cuz i was skeptical on this and didnt beleive it, so i opened the tranny and counted every single tooth on every gear

Thanks guys - Confirmed the tranny was indeed a short geared

is it a lsd tranny… you might have a 88-91 si-r y1 lsd tranny. jack pot.

yi aint a jack pot lol… its hard finding a clutch for that tranny and internal parts… an aftermarket lsd is a pain in the ass for it. ur better off with a ys1 lsd short gear trans… now thats a jack pot.

Finding internals is a pain, yes… But a clutch disc? C’mon man… JDM transmissions use the same clutch disc as a 90-91 USDM Integra. Easy.

thats true lol… opps.
