How do you remove the starter relay?

See the attached…my problem is I can’t get any type Phillips screwdriver (stubby won’t even work) in there to remove the relay, you can barely see the screw in the second pic.
I trying to remove the A/C evaporator but I can’t seem to remove it!

HELP!!!

you can unlatch the two metal straps holding the AC box to the firewall. after you do that, unscrew the radiator fan relay (the gold bracket with two bolts that you can see in pic2) so that you can get in there with a 90* extension on a power drill. try to find the shortest screw bit you can find. i used one from a ratcheting screwdriver kit. i had less than 1mm to fit the screw bit to get it started then unscrewed the rest with a regular screwdriver. after you get it started with the drill, push the AC box off to the side as much as you can and a regular #2 philips will do the rest.

you can ziptie it back in, mines been that way for almost 15k miles and makes for a real easy fix/harvest when i need to remove it.

E: if you dont have a drill or the bits, a 90* screwdriver can work, but its crazy awkward and you have to do it like 1/8 of a turn at a time.

You mean a drill like this? Or the extension itself being 90 deg? Got a pic for me?

wait, wait!!! why do you have to pull the ac core mounting straps.

pull the 2 gold 10mm bolts and let the gold bracket hang down, get a screw driver in there and unscrew the relay.done and done.

Its a bitch, but you have plenty of room to work in there, with a little twisting of your arm

Well $30 later and my local shop replaced the starter relay…they did put it back with tie-wraps for easier replacement later…so far 100% starting…I need to wait for the hotter weather and put her to the real test…

Well after thinking this was fixed, because during the 90 deg days, and after driving for awhile she started right up EVERY single time!!! Then lo and behold one night after dinner I get in and she’s doing the same thing!!! I was like WTF!! :gunright:…so it seems like now it’s only happening during cooler days.
But anyways looks like it wasn’t the starter relay causing this issue…so onto the ground for the starter then the ignition?:bawl:
