How does cruise control operate normally?

Just purchased my first Integra with cruise control. It works… I believe, but I’m looking for some insight on how it functions for others.

When cruising I set my speed, light illuminates, take my foot off the gas and the speed drops about 5-6 mph below where I set it. Is this normal or are there adjustments in order? Im going to call out now that I dont have an owners manual for it so if the info is in there, sorry :read:

hit “set”, then “accel”
speed should increase a few mph each time you hit accel

although you may need to be travelling a certain speed yet before it will function. some vehicles restrict that

SIGH. Yes I understand how cruise work as well as how to set it. What i’m wondering is - for other Integra owners with OEM CC, after setting your cruse control, how many MPH difference do you notice between your set point and the actual cruise speed? For mine, I can hit set while traveling at 70 MPH, but then it drops down and cruses at around 63 MPH. Annoying for me and anyone behind me.

That seems pretty low, but on the other hand, I have never used the cruise control in my Integra, and I’ve now removed it. On my 2000 honda civic it was normal for it to drop around 5 mph at times.

Are you immediately letting go of the accelerator, or do you keep your foot on, until you “feel” the cruise control take over the pedal pressure and or gradually ease off?

I’ve tried leaving my foot on as well as releasing immediately. When i leave my foot on you never actually feel the cruise actuator movement in the pedal. It basically just drop’s in speed and then catches. I have to hold the ACL button to get back up to where I want it to be.

I just found the troubleshooting sheet for the CC system. Under “Excessive overshooting and/or undershooting when trying to set speed” - its either 1)Actuator/Cable Free Play 2)Vehicle Speed Sensor or 3)Control Unit Input. I betcha its play in the cable. I’m going to do some adjustments and see if the issue goes away.

I’ve noticed this sort of issue in my integra too ever since I purchased it(125,000 miles). I’ll set the cruise control let my foot off the pedal and it’ll drop down in speed until it catches, but it always seemed to be 3-5mph short. I’ve also set the cruise and held my speed until I’ve felt the pedal take over, that seemed to work better and only be a couple mph short. I’ve always just acc. up to the desired cruise speed and it was fine. I haven’t used my cruise in a over a year or so now but I needed to use it the other day and now I’m lucky if it stays on, it’ll go on but then a couple seconds later let off. I might have to do this a few times then it’ll stay on. Seems touchy now.
