how hard is it to install a alarm?

just wondering…Also what are the best ones to get? i need one soon with my new system.

Not sure how hard it is. . . check out Alpine though, I have been satisfied with their alarms. .

pretty simple if you have the wiring diagrams that came with the alarm, and the wire colours for parking lights, etc… on your car. you can get that at bulldogsecurity.com. if you need help email me at davesenos@rogers.com . ive installed plenty of alarms

Depending on your skill level it could be easy or hard. Are you familiar with 12v electrical systems, wiring schematics, and how to use a vom? If you are then it is pretty easy.

I install mostly Black Widow alarms. They are inexpensive and full features.

I prefer to get the business to install it, only because if they **** anything up its still under warranty.

yeah, lifetime warranty is only good if it is professionally installed. Just have the alarm installed, and then you can add extra goodies yourself if you want to save some money ie: trunk release, but only if you are good with 12V installs.

If you know your basics with electrical stuff and waht not and have the provided isntallation guide witht eh wirring diagrams and colour codes and waht does what it’s quite easy. jsut time consuming.

It is farely easy if you don’t have too many items to hook up. The hardest part is finding the right wires and placing the brain in an inconvienent location. There are several good companies out there, Viper, ALpine, and numerous others. All depends on what you want it to protect and control. Also look at Crutchfield to see if the have an adapter that plugs right into the main harness for an easiers install with no splicing of wires.

what about those ebay alarms? they seem pretty cheap…

Do you know how to wire relays? If I asked you to find the tach wire, would you know how to test for it? What about for finding the lock wire in a one wire system? If I asked you to wire in the dome light on a positive trigger vehicle, would you know how to do it? If you can do these things then you shouldn’t have any trouble. But you must understand that alarms are much more dificult than a simple amp or deck install. Even if you have a book that tells you which wire to look for and where to find it, you still have to know how to meter it to verify you have the right ones. Those books are notorious for being wrong.

Other things that help knowing is how to hide the brain, and how to camoflage the wires. There are certain tricks picked up by experience and learning from others that might not be obvious to the average person.

I’m not saying you can’t do it. I admire anyone who tries, as long as I don’t have to fix the mistakes. Good luck on your decision.

I look at it like this…If you can READ and follow directions it shouldn’t be that hard!
but who knows
