MID and REAR engine are different.
weight distribution is different, and thus handling characteristics.
You want to put your engine in the back of your already-well balanced car. Don’t pretend you understand physics better than I do. Everyone knows why fwd’s spin out so easily. Just because you figured this out by ripping up your clutch, doesn’t make you a physicist.
And like i’ve already stated, if you’re so set on doing this… why are you asking us how hard it is, and not even listening to the replies?? You ARE going to have to completely cut your car apart, spend THOUSANDS of dollars OR hundreds of hours fabricating new suspension and engine mounts and axles and steering assemblies and hundreds of other things. Also you have to figure out how you’re going to keep your back end rigid when you’ve cut a giant hole in it. [/B]
If you didnt want a physics lesson, you shouldnt have asked a stupid quesiton like “How would putting the engine in the back help”!
Also you have to figure out how you’re going to keep your back end rigid when you’ve cut a giant hole in it.
Finally, you’ve contributted something usefull to this thread!
I was thinking of welding beams across for rigity, ,and then putting certain mounts on the beams as well.
The only thing i’m concerned about is getting the power to the wheels
sigh Ok if you’re actually serious about this, you’d be better off putting the engine longitudinally right behind the front seats. Wouldn’t take much more work… MUCH better balance. Only problem is that you’d pretty much have to get a differential fabricated…
Also… legality?? Don’t know where you live, but I really think you might want to check into that. You’ll need a firewall… ventilation… and probably some way of proving that it’s not gonna fall apart when you hit a speed bump.
Servicing your engine. Might be a little more awkward when you can’t get at it as easily (if it’s that far forward at least…)
I would prefer to keep it in the hatch so i can keep my back seats. In non-smog cities, the inspection is pretty much just your turn signals. In houston, dallas, ,and those other big cities, its more thorough.
Air has been worrying me too. I was thinking about cutting a 3" hole in the side of my body in the rear and have my intake there and put a box around it that forces on coming air into the hole. Cooling air for the engine is a problem tho. Was thinking about a snorkel to sccop up air from the bottom.
Then the radiator… was thinking aobut getting a fluidine and just have theh oses reach to the back of the car, may have to get some kind of pump to help it along.
The weight distribution on our cars is 54/46 right? Thats 1431 lbs / 1219 lbs. Take the engine out and put it in the rear and it will be very rear biased.
Too many problems, i think i’m just gonna buy a 240
why dont u just build a really really nice motor in the front? this makes no sense to put the motor in the back and obviously you have no concept of how much it will cost. 1k? yea right.
also, have u looked into any place that will even touch this project?
Bottom line - if you’re asking these kind of questions then you shouldn’t even consider doing something like this. First thing’s first, experience and a little intimate knowledge about cars and motors is a must, and no offense notecLS, but doesn’t sound like you even have close to enough know-how to fabriicate this. Now, from an experienced standpoint, shops don’t normally do things like this, but a buddy of mine has put his gsr engine into the back of a crx…but it took him about 2 years to complete, and since he’s a shop owner, it still cost him somewhere around 8-10G to put together. Allbeit’s totally kickass, but again, he’s a PROFESSIONAL…
