How many YS1 trannies are there???

i Bought my car from a freind and the car came with a obd0 b16 motor and a ys1 tranny. Im just curious on which tranny it might be. I think there is an ls,92-93 gsr, and a jdm b16ysi???

is that all the ys1 trannies and how can I tell which tranny I have.

search man…there was just a post about the same thing not too long ago. to answer your question. there is no way to tell what tranny it is by looking at the outside. you either have to open the case and count the teeth. or check while driving. i forget what rpm you should be at. but at 70 i think its up around 4500 or so. a quick search will answer your question

there have been 2 or 3 threads in the past 2 days on this exact same subject. search and find those. there is a link to an FFsquad page that has information on what RPM you would be running at different speeds to tell if yours is short geared or not.

^^ That’s if it is a short-geared version (in reference to Brian’s post). ^^

yea i was talking about the short geared version.

ok brian349 in 4th driving 70mph im at 4500rpms. In 5th at 80 im at about 4000rpms. So with you saying short geared that means 92-93 GSR YS1 tranny???

sounds like a ls tranny.

Speed calculator.

Sounds like LS tranny, long geared version, ie crap, lol.

Meet07, in the second post on this thread, Brian349 told you what to do to check, 70 mph in 5th, and the short geared version would yeild around 4500 rpms or so. But you did your own thing in 4th gear and 80 mph in 5th. Don’t you see you have to go the same speed in the same gear to compare?

Yea, if you plug those figures into an online calculator like this one:

It looks like a “long-geared” YS1.

If it was a “short-gear” YS1 you should be around 60MPH+ at 4500 in 4th, and ~70MPH+ at 4000 in 5th.
