How much paint for my car

So im painting my car here shortly and have been looking to paint my car most likely scion envy green or the new camaro green and i plan on painting the whole car including door jams and engine bay rad support, trunk jams pretty much everything except the interior shell.

So my question to you guys is how much paint do i really need to do all of this? The Whole car is primed and sealed but i want to make sure its fully covered and the color comes out right but the paint is pretty pricey so i dont want to have to buy alot if i dont have to.

my roommate who paints concept cars for chrysler says i should use 2 gallons because he thinks the color will take many coats to cover it fully, but every other place i ask they say a gallon would be fine, so im just not sure.

Thanks for any info!!

2 gallons lol, you shouldn’t even need a gallon but it’s nice to have extra paint if needed. Do you have hardener and reducer already to? Because mixing those will make it like you have double the paint you already have

no i havent bought the clear or any hardener or reducers, waiting till i go in to buy the paint

2 Qts of base color
2 Qts of Reducer
= 1 Gallon sprayable.

Should be just about perfect as long as you don’t go overkill on the bay.

2 gallons is WAY too much. 1 Gallon & 1 quart absolute max.

awesome thanks guys, that will save me a lot of money

2qt base 2qt reducer
what i painted mine with including door and hatch jambs and had alittle left.

ask about the mix ration. we use water borne now so it mixes different

Can you guys not get regular enamel/acrylic stuff any more? I know 2011 was supposed to bring about a ton of changes with the legalities of paints etc…

But we’re still able to get the standard stuff, as well as water-based stuff.

yep i just got water based paint… boutta repaint my car. excited and wondering how water based paint comes out.

Water base turns out good been using it at work for almost a year now. Just make sure to have blowers going on the base unless you want to wait forever for it to flash off

Interesting stuff. Will be looking forward to using the water based stuff… but for the time being I’ve just been sticking with the traditional stuffs.

no more solvent base for us in the Bay Area.
