so how exactly do u adjust the TPs TO THE correct voltage setting?? is there something u are suppose to turn? plz be descriptive. thx my car a auto now shift at like 2 000 rpm hehe not fun to drive.
TPS?
throttle positioning sensor
my automatic shifts faster then yours, neil, because of my jdm tps and oxygen sensor.
yes yes =P i remember you guys talking about that before on how one of you guys auto shift before the other. well this is the reason.
I just wanted to know so I COULD MOVE THE THREAD LODOSS!!!
i didn’t think you could adjust the tps. i though that if its bad, then its bad. my tps went bad a few years ago and i had a bouncing idle (manual tranny), i had to have the whole TB replaced.

what are you guys talking about? jdm tps/o2?
i wish i could get mine to redline like its supposed to. you can get 200 more rpms in D2…
i was being sarcastic, as was neil. and 2nd gear goes to the fuel cut-off unless you shift it. it holds 2nd gear, which is mainly used for icy conditions, engine braking or climbing a hill. do not start in 2nd unless you are on ice. because starting from 2nd gear makes the car slower and puts more load on the motor at low rpm’s.
LODOSS, does it shift at 2k rpms in S-mode?? it should raise the shift points to about 3.5k to 4k rpms. why not just replace your tps? and, just curious, how do you know that is the prob…what factors would lead you to know that is the prob?
there is nothing wrong with my TPS it’s jsut that i took it off a stock b18a and put it onto a jg bored b16 tb and it just needs to be readjusted (voltage) in order to work perfectly… yes it shift at 2k even in s gear.
their non adjustable on our cars if their out of range or have a dead spot your supposed to get a new one. BUT on some of them you can wallow out the holes and kinda slide/twist them , never tried it on a teg tho. what are your tps reading that are weird ? do you have a dropout?
wow when i star t the car it idles high and i have a safc so it tell me approx throttle position. when i step about 10% throttle the safc is still at 0.
they are adjustable
it’s been adjusted and it works fine now. now i just have to clean my IACV. my car got so much blow-by sigh… it if ****ing filthy inside i’m sure. my throttle body was black and had gunk that was still wet all over it and so did my intake =( luckily i’m getting engine rebuild soon so i don’t care =p

well, you gonna tell everyone how you adjusted it? don’t leave the thread completely worthless.
=( i was suppose to get help from you guys? =( calling it worthless… anyways here it goes.
make sure everything is plugged up and working. get a paper clip and somehow make it so that it touches the middle connector that goes to the TPS on one end and the other leave it so it sticks out. (everything is still connected) then get a votlage readier and test it when t is closed and then when it is completely open. turn the key to on position without starting the car. the readings should be .45 closed and 4.5 when i’ts open. If it is off then you will need to adjust it. first you must lossen the two bolts holding the TPS down. If you haver never taken it off before then it is pretty much impossible to lossen it like that, you would have to take off the whole throttle body and then basically make a cut in the middle of the left over screws on the TPS and then use a flat head and loosen it. but once u get them loosen u basically get a towel and put it on it and then use a hammer and just lightly tap it into the direction u want… if your car feels sluggesh = u step a lil on the gas but the car does not seem to be responding then u will need to turn it clockwise to the thorttle body = (looking at the tb from the back (from the firewall)) . and if you light tap the gas pedal and it just growls then it is too high then u want to go counterclockwise… once done then tighten the screws down. u do not have to make it very tight. this bascallly works the same as the distributor… it has room in there for the bolts to turn
adjusting your tps
in order to adjust your tps you have to turn your pop rivots into screws like with a dremmel or hacksaw. then loosen the screws, once you loosen the screws the tps sensor will pivot side to side. you need a volt meter touch each side to a screw on either side of the tps sensor. then adjust the tps sensor side to side until you volts get to “I believe” .50. after you get it there you have to screw the screws back into the hole “SNUG” tight enough so they won’t move but not extra tight. the tps sensor will only move a little bit side to side maybe only 1/2 an inch to each side but it will make a difference.![]()
dont’ even really need to take it off… get a hammer and a towel, put the towel over it and carefully try not hitting anythign else tap the TPS and it should turn about +/- 10 degrees other direction. however you do need to tap into the wire or with a SAFC u can just read the signal off of that.
my idle is only at .38 will that be ok?? or could this be the problems with surging idels?? hm… i’ll try to figure it out soon.
for those with safc can you tell me your Signal 2. which should be around .40-.45 at idle and 4.5 at wot. you do not need to start the car up for thos just turn the ignition key to on. please list your voltage reading and specify if you have any idle surging problems.
you have 3 wires, poke sewing needles through each one, and then a multimeter hooked up to two of them (forgot which two)
Email DB2-R81 for more details; he did mine when we did my head swap.
but yes, you pretty much have the idea.
nice guys, i was looking for that, i have a spair TPS connector, i’m gonna conect the battery directly to it and read the voltage whenever i move the throttle to WOT or closed…
Someone knows which wire is which ?
i’m wondering because there is 3 wire going to the TPS,
one Green, one Yellow and one Red…
Which one is which ? i assume there is one ground, one signal and the positive12v, please help me ![]()
