how to adjust your e-brake

here is a simple guide how to adjust your e-brake cable.

if you ebrake doesnt really engage until the brake is fully pulled, then you need to adjust it. mine would be fully pulled, and you could push the car.

this is on a 2door, not sure if same for 4door, but i think so

1- remove the ask tray from behind the ebrake.
2- you will see two cables, a plate, and a big nut in the middle. turn the big nut clockwise to make it tighter. e-brake should not be in use while tighting. use blocks to stop car from rolling.
3- test the ebrake. continue to tightend until ebrake is good and set. you shouldnt come close to be able to move your car if it is set. get out and push to test if needed (i did).

thats it. reinstall the ask tray.

thanks ill try that.

i wonder what happens when you accidently drive with the ebrake on. i did that for like 50ft and soon after i noticed i needed to pull up on the brake more to get the same effect.

hey! sometimes i tend to forget to let the ebrake down too, and drive for a good 10 min before realizing the car is slower than usual…and now my drivers rear caliper is locking up, do u think its cuz of the ebrake thing?

hmm you guys never look down and see the brake light on?

my brake light doesnt work, so even if the ebrake is up, the brake light won’t light up

there’s always a reason for everything, if not, then it’s called stupidity

i had a friend fuck my e-brake up he just keep pulling and pulling untill the e-brake handle was straight up grrrrrrrrrrr, did that ever piss me off:mad:

If you have the joy of ABS and you drive with your e-brake on your ABS light goes on and won’t go away till you shut off the car.

Scared the piss out of me one day. I’m like my brakes work fine what the hell and then I saw the brake light was on.

Im guilty of this also… man did my brakes smoke and stink! Of course, when I did this I got fully on it too, so im like “What the?? sniff sniff Oh crap!” Luckly for me the car was getting the brakes changed in a few days

That happened to me one day…I guess I didn’t take the e-brake off all of the way (it was barely on) and the light was lit. Luckily I was in a county park taking pics of my car and there wasn’t any traffic around…so I just took the e-brake off and shut the car off and the light went off.

that just means you abs was turned off till the car turns off so it can restarta agian

Does this tighten both cables, or does it just tighten one side at the expense of the other?

I went and checked this out and I found out for my 90LS is there is not one but two big bolts one is on the plate and the other is right behind it under the carpet. j/w how would be able to take off the entire ebrake piece like the plastic piece that around it I think my bolts on the front by my shifter is broken.

To remove that part of the center console you have to remove the two screws under the cover, then slide the piece back and up, and it should pop out.

yes i understand that but does anyone have like a picture of the screws that are underneith that plate. Like i said I think they’re broken so I might have to find a way to get them out.

I don’t have a picture, but they look like 2 normal phillips head screws. Do you mean they are stripped or what?

ok thats what i thought yea they’re broke then becasue they look like a screw with on side.
